It was a typical day in Forks, Washington. Rainy as usual, and she loved that. The weather was perfect considering it meant they could go out and about if they wanted to without the usual worries of being found out. Being vampires of course, meant they had to be careful so that humans especially would not find out about their existance, because if they did, it was safe to say that the Volturi would be visiting them. And that was something she wanted to avoid.
Jasper, Esme, Bella, and Edward were out hunting....she had just arrived at the house earlier and was anticipating the arrival of her husband, mother and brother and sister in law. Carlisle, her father was at the hospital saving lives, and Rosalie and Emmett—well she had no idea where they were. Their lives had been peaceful for a lack of a better word since the Volturi had left them alone after they had seen reason due to a vision she had shared with Aro showing what would happen if they continued on their path to kill her family.
She had changed into one of her more comfortable outfits, it suited her taste as she sensed that almost everyone was gone...which made sense given the time of day it was and since everyone but Nessie didn’t need to sleep it made sense. Nessie, could sleep whether she wanted to or she didn’t. That was up to her, since Nessie was the only one who had an actual heartbeat.
Walking around the house—she knew she had to find something to do—as she was not in the mood to go out and hunt. She didn’t have to, as she had just fed the other day and was still quite capable of being around humans without wanting to taste their blood as Edward had put it. She had been upstairs when she had heard the door shut with a slam, and how it rattled the windows. “Nessie’s home.” She thought as she walked down the stairs and knew exactly where her niece actually was—the music room, a beautiful place to be in when one was upset.
She didn’t need to see a vision to know that her niece was upset as any time Edward or even Nessie was upset music was the one thing that could calm either of them down. Carefully she walked into the room knowing that Nessie was upset. She wondered if she should ask if Nessie was alright—but instincts told her to tread carefully as her niece was strong even for a half vampire. She just didn’t want to see her niece so upset. “Hey, Nessie. Are you alright? Did you and Jacob have a fight?” She asked as usually Nessie was in a good mood so seeing her in an unhappy mood was not too pleasant at all. She smiled as she listened to her niece play, as she was as good at it as her father was.

Nessie was very much like her father when it came to getting angry—something she had understood. But both had a tendancy to avoid the things that bothered them, as she had witnessed throughout the time she spent with both her brother and her niece. It took a lot for her to be angry—but when she did, it was for a valid purpose...like when someone was targeting her family. No one really knew what they were responsible for when they were angry. Sighing softly she looked at her young niece. “Alright...alright. Take it easy....”
She told her niece as she had backed up some. Knowing that when she had mentioned Jacob’s name and Nessie’s reaction that there was something she didn’t want to say. “Look, I’m just—I’m trying to help but I can see that my presence isn’t helping any.” She said softly as she knew that there was a problem and knew the shifter was behind it. What he had done though—was something she didn’t know if she truly wanted to know. Jake had been there for Nessie when she was born—as had they all. “Isn’t that song you’re playing the first one your father showed you?” She asked trying to change the subject as she looked at her niece.
She couldn’t help but be worried as any aunt in this situation would be. But she also knew that any normal couple had issues and with vampires and shifters it’s all the more complicated. She hoped that Nessie would calm down as she didn’t like to see her niece in alot of pain and anger. But since she couldn’t see the future involving half bloods like Nessie and shifters like Jacob anything was possible at the moment. And she didn't like not being able to see it.

Vampires, no matter if they were half or not, with a temper were a deadly mix, as she knew very well. Which is why she had stepped back when her neice was in a bad mood. She could tell that her niece was frustrated which was precisely why she was trying to help. She also knew that Nessie wasn’t the only one who had issues with their significant other. She hadn’t seen Jasper in quite a while and that made her a little frustrated too. Though she did her best to hide it as she didn’t want to make things more complicated.
“Mine too. He always was one to play music, that was my one of my first memories of him. Right after I’d joined the family....he helped me in more ways than I can ever repay him for. We’ve had a close bond ever since then. It was because of him that I grew to love the piano, although I was never very good at playing it. This song...you’re playing...was one of the first I remember him playing several years ago.. He’s always had a love of music and could always make me smile while he played, a gift that I’m glad you inherited.” She replied when Nessie spoke of the music she was playing. The song was one of her favorites, but then again anything Edward played was just that good.
When Nessie finally returned her gaze, she could tell her niece was sorry. “It’s okay. I know how you get when you’re angry...and I can tell he made you angry. Which it wouldn’t be the first time one of the wolves angered one of us.”
That was the truth, Jacob used to make Edward, Nessie’s father, so angry because of what he did and how he felt about Bella, Nessie’s mother. She also hadn’t trusted Jacob until right before Nessie was born.
But she kept her mouth shut then only for Bella’s sake and nothing more.
“It’s okay, Nessie. But you have to be careful." She cautioned her niece. "You talk like that to your dad or your mother and you know how they’d have reacted. I knew you were tense. I may not be able to see your future but I do know you. After all these years of being a vampire—I’ve been able to pick up on things. Especially after living with Jasper for all these years. ”
She smiled softly as she spoke of her husband, oh how she wished he was there.
“I know you didn’t mean to snap like that—emotions run high for all of us when we’re angry. Which is why I only backed up, just like I had done with with your dad whenever he got angry. However, you’re different from your dad because at least you appologize, which is something that he has never been able to do or cared to do.” She explained as she looked at her niece, and was relieved when she went back to playing the piano, because it was the one thing that kept her calm.
Nessie and Jasper were closer than most, as Nessie had certain bonds with each member of their family. Jasper was the understanding of them—and could keep emotions calm which was one of the reasons she had fallen in love with him. Nessie was close with Emmett too, but that bond was different.
The one thing she did know was that Jasper, Bella, and Jacob were the only other three people that could really calm her down with ease. Rosalie and Emmett were able to get Nessie to talk—but sometimes it made things worse and she knew it. “Carlisle is at the hospital, during one of his shifts. Your parents are with Esme and Jasper out hunting and I’m not even sure where Emmett and Rosalie are.” She responded as she kept an eye on her niece.

Normally she wouldn’t have intervened but she had known that Nessie needed to talk to someone. She tried to avoid getting into people’s business when they didn’t want her to be—but unfortunately she had a tendancy of doing it more often than she even thought of. All she wanted to do was help but sometimes that backfired. Nessie was different than the others and she didn’t want her niece mad at her for simply worrying about her. Though she could understand why.
“I know, your dad has always played the piano very well. It’s soothing and I remember how it put you to sleep when you were small. It’s my favorite one too. But at least you’ve inherited that from him. I couldn’t play the piano at all...” She replied to her niece as she watched her play.
She smiled before saying what she wanted to say. “I’ve known your dad a long time...and he’s the one I tend to argue with between him and your mom but even that’s rare. Arguing with your dad—can be like a blood bath especially with his temper. I’ve almost always gotten to the point where I just give up because it’s almost impossible fighting with him because as you very well know he likes to have the last word no matter what the conversation is about.” She answered honestly as she looked at the piano before looking back at her niece. Arguements with Edward never went anywhere productive. Their history had proven that.
“Me too, I would have loved to accompany them. But they were already gone when I got back to the house after picking up a few things in town. The only reason that I know where the others except for Rosalie and Emmett are is because my husband was kind enough to leave behind a note but it didn’t say when everyone would be back.” She sighed as she said it, as she wished they would all get home soon, so that they could do something together as a family.
She wasn’t surprised when Nessie threw her phone but knew why. And knowing that Nessie’s heart rate was beating faster than normal was not helping any, due to her superhearing that vampires like her possessed, she could hear it when others who wasn’t a vampire could not. She watched as Nessie ripped the pillow in half. “I know sweetie. He needs to be around more—not just for your sake but for everyone’s. I haven’t been able to touch base with him since we talked a few days ago. He’s worried I think for the Pack’s sake. As he does have a responsibility to them. I don’t hate him...or her for that matter, but that’s because I understand the position they are both in—just like they’ve understood ours. And as far as Leah is concerned, I wouldn’t worry so much about her she never really liked anyone—like your mother for example. She’s just highly protective of Jacob and she’s also his Beta, which is his second in command, so naturally they will be spending quite a bit of time together. But being mad at either one of them won’t change the fact that they will be spending time together, as they work together. It’s nothing more than that. He’s only got eyes for you, Nessie.”

She smiled as she looked at her niece. “Yeah I know your father has a gift for the piano. If I could sleep, I would have had good dreams as well. Your dad is one of the best men I’ve ever known....and I’m proud to be his sister.” She smiled softly as she looked at her niece, knowing of course how difficult things could be. She would do anything to be there for her family, especially her niece. She loved her family more than anything in the entire world which was precisely why she kept her eyes peeled on her niece. She watched as her niece fixed her hair as she spoke about Edward never losing an arguement.
“I can recall a few times, but it was very rare as you said. What I do know is I don’t like to be in an arguement with him, as you never win. He’s always right even when he was wrong.” She gave her niece a hug.
“Now I’ll admit I was never too fond of Jacob when we first ran into him, but he’s a good man despite the fact I can’t stand his stench. But that’s something that I’ve learned to tolerate. He loves you, Nessie. I know that it may be difficult for you to understand, but he disappears because of the fact he is a shifter, it’s his responsibility even if he’d rather be doing anything else. He used to do the same thing to your mom. When Edward—and I—when we all left your mom, after what had happened with James, we did it for your mom’s own good. Wanting to protect her. It was around this time that Jacob—became a shifter, and at first he was the one thing that gave your mom something to look forward to—something that was real instead of the pain we left her in. We hadn’t known that it was to be that way—but when Jacob first shifted, your mom told me that she couldn’t get him to talk to her. He hid it from her. Until she figured it out for herself, the same way she had found out what your father and I were. There were days when she wouldn’t see him—he avoided her like the plague or so she thought—but she told me later that it was because he was getting used to being a shifter. I know it’s not fair, and it’s not a normal situation to be in—when your better half is always busy....but he’ll come around. You just have to talk to him and tell him how you feel. That he needs to be around more.” She told her niece and knew that Nessie was truly afraid of losing Jacob and that hurt her as she didn’t want to see anyone in pain. But things happened the way they did for a reason.
Even if the reason wasn’t understood. “Sweetheart...Nessie, it doesn’t matter how pretty Leah may be or isn’t. It’s not about whether you’re half his natural enemy or not. Jacob loves you. He’s loved you from the moment he set eyes on you. Don’t forget he defended you against Sam, and helped to make sure you survived when the Volturi came after our family. I know that you’re scared to lose him but I promise you this, you never will. Safety isn’t everything. If it were, none of us would have made it as far as we have. Leah’s just his friend, that’s all that there is to it. You’re not going to lose him, not at all—there is no one that he wants more than you.” She tried to reassure her niece.
