Lucas was walking along in the heavily populated forest. It had a lot of animals and Lucas liked it that way. He knew that there were things that decrease the population just by shooting them and eating their meat. He did not like that fact because it would mean there would be no more animals after a long period of time. Lucas knew that there had to be vampires around this small town. He had the thought that they were everywhere so why not there is some around his area that he lived in. He knew that vampire s smelled a disgusting stench but he also that wolves probably gave off the same stench also. Lucas sat down on a log and saw a squirrel scurrying about and Lucas figured that it was probably gathering nuts for the upcoming winter. He knew that winter was not for a while now but you could never be too safe. Lucas wondered if there was any vampires around that did not feed on humans but also on animals. The thought disgusted him just by thinking it because the vampires would only kill the animals for their blood. The rest of the animals would go to waste and that would just be unsanitary and would be bad.
Lucas then smelled a horrid stench nearby and realized the stench did not belong to any animal he knew of but a horrid vampire. He would try to be friendly but it would take everything within him that he had just to be nice. He followed the stench and it got stronger and stronger. Then when it was at its peak he came upon the vampire that it belonged to. Lucas saw the pale white skin and he knew that if the weather was bright that the vampire’s skin would glisten. Lucas spoke saying” Who are you?There is no humans around . So you can just turn around and disappear.”

The forest was always a wonderful place to find oneself or at least in Carlisle's opinion it was, no matter what season or what the weather the forest was always beautiful. He had been on the Earth for over a hundreds of years and he would forever find the changing seasons a source of beauty, the way they changed the landscape yearly perfectly demonstrating the cycle of life. Today the woods was quiet and peaceful, there was only the faint chirping of birds as Carlisle walked through it slowly admiring the plants, he had spent the away working and whenever he needed to unwind this was where he came, the silence always helped to clear his mind. He loved his children dearly but their house was very divided at the moment and in order to have the most patience with them, he needed some time to himself to consider their options and what would be best for each of them.
His thoughts were interrupted by the smell of wolf, it was not a particularly pleasant stench, but Carlisle had come to find it bare able these days with the amount of time Jacob and his pack spent in their home. Turning he watched as a someone entered the field Carlisle considered him carefully he could not be to old by the look of him maybe in his teens? Which was apparently the round about time for shifters to find out about their talents. The boys words were spoken aggressively and this did not surprise Carlisle most shifters were opposed to Vampires, it was only the Uley and Black packs which had formed a special alliance with the Cullens and some werewolves had bad experiences with vampires. "My name is Carlisle Cullen and I mean no harm to you or the humans in the area" Carlisle spoke calmly with a warm smile on his face, this werewolf was obviously a local to the area and if so he did not want to start off on the wrong door with him "May I in return ask who you are?"

Lucas stared at the vampire to determine if this vampire would be a threat or a semi friendly person. He thought to himself” No vampire can be called a friendly good guy. They always have something wrong with them.” he then heard the vampire speak in a calm and relaxed tone of voice. Lucas was surprised that there was a vampire that was actually calm and relaxed when being confrontated by a wolf. He heard that the name of the vampire and Lucas replied.” Oh Carlisle what reason is there that I can believe you. Vampires have always shown their true colors and been aggressively cruel and downright anti social and mean spirited. I see that you have different looking eyes. I usually see vampires that have crimson red eyes.” “This vampire is sure a interesting type vampire. Maybe he feeds on a different type of thing.”
Lucas began to speak saying” Maybe I should tell you my name or maybe I should not. What assurance do I have that you will not go off and tell others of your kind about me and them come after me?Now we can’t have that now can we?” Lucas had begun to have second thoughts about maybe he can trust this vampire but what if he does tell him his name and it does backfire in his face.

Carlisle nodded slowly as the shifter spoke, he obviously had some resentment towards vampires most likely due to some past experience but Carlisle thought not to ask, he was interested that the shifter picked up on the difference I his eye colour to other vampires. Most shifters did not even know that much about vampires so he obviously had some prior knowledge about them, he also went on to explain about his doubts in Carlisle's ability not to tell anyone about him being a shifter, there was a threatening edge to his voice that Carlisle picked up on. "The reason for my difference in eye colour is due to my diet, unlike other vampires I feed of the blood of animals not humans" Hopefully this would give the shifter another reason to trust him if he was no threat to humans which seemed to be a major concern for all werewolves.
'You are not the only werewolf that I know of, I have not revealed their the identities of the other members of your kind and I would not reveal yours" Carlisle spoke with a warm and understanding voice he did not patronise the wolf nor allow any aggression into his voice, he did not want the wolf to feel threatened in any way, Carlisle was of no threat to him at all. "I can understand your resentment towards my kind, but I am unlike other vampires you may come across"

As Lucas was standing in front of this vampire that called himself Carlisle Lucas nodded at him. Lucas said” Well carlisle What is the difference in tasting from animals than humans?I would think that they would taste the same and it would just be the issue of humanity. So it actually affects your eye color that much that it changes it. That is very interesting to know. It would seem that your kind actually has a decent shot of being more human in a certain way so to speak.Oh by the way I am Lucas Jackson.” E ven t hough humans hunt down his kind because they think they cause trouble Lucas still wanted to protect the humans from the vampires. As Lucas found out this vampire and his coven did not seem to pose a threat to the humans. Maybe they were somewhat decent so to speak.
Lucas’s curiousity was raised when carlisle talked about Lucas not being the only wolf that he knows of. Lucas asked” So there are more around here other than my pack? This is interesting. I am not sure if any members of my family has talked to any others. We all tend to do our own things but that does not mean it affects our family love. Yeah lets just say it was a personal attack that raised my hatred for vampires.I have seen that you are different and I appreciate that.”

"To our kind there is a great difference between feeding from animals and humans, not only a matter of pride and humanity, but it is a different way of life going against old traditions set by vampires"' It seemed that despite this werewolfs initial ferocity there was a calmer side to him and Carlisle was relieved when he was given a name Lucas Jackson, Carlisle knew for a fact Jacob would find this information important he would probably want to approach this new pack and explain the rules of their territory. Werewolf ways were unfamiliar to Carlisle, but he could only assume that this was something they did or at least exchanged pleasantries and got to know each other that seemed like the right thing to do in Carlisles opinion.
It also seemed that Lucas had been oblivious to any other packs in the area and had made no attempt to engage them either, he also spoke about a personal attack being responsible for his hatred towards Vampires and this was an understandable reason. Most people hated vampires for this reason or one similar, Carlisle was curious about exactly who it was, but choose not to ask not wanting to disrupt the calmer reaction he seemed to have towards him "Yes there are two other packs in the area that I know of and though it probably means nothing I apologise for this vampire's actions not every member of our kind is as peaceful as my family and I are, but we shall not harm any members of your pack" This was true the only reason they would attack this pack would be if they harmed any of their family first, but hopefully it would not come to that.

Lucas said" I have nevertalked or seen a vampire that did not prey on the innocent and helpless humans.They had always been the crimson red eyed blood suckers..When did you start drinking blood from animals? Surely you must have drunk human blood at some point in your life. Am I right in assuming that Carlisle or am I wrong?Could you try and help me find that other pack so I can try and make a friendly conversation with them. I am pretty sure you know where to find them at considering you have been around here and had run ins with them."
Lucas did not know why he was trusting this vampire in various ways but he owed it to his mother to try and be friendly to any person no matter what type they were.Lucas asked" Even though I accept your apology for a comeplete strange i am curious to how you could do that for someone you do not know? It is just beyond me to find someone even a vampire that would do that.I guess you are a better person that I am. It has been a while since i lost my parent and i still hold a bitter grudge.Thank you for saying you would not harm anyone in my pack and I will return the favor about your coven. There is that exception of if anyone in the pack or coven is attacked then all bets are off. Of course you can see why that would be. "

The young shifter had a lot of questions about their lifestyle which was understandable, he listened as he asked a number of question relating to their choice to drink the blood of animals instead of humans "I can't say that I have never drank human blood, but I was one of the first to see a vampires capability in survive of animal blood, but I have survived from it for over three hundred years now and my family made the decision to follow me, so we are all what we call 'vegetarian' vampires." Carlisle nodded in response to his questions about locating the other pack, he also knew Jacob and Sam would want to speak to the leader of their pack, they would need to make peace with them as well as explain their agreement with his coven.
It did seem to surprise Lucas that Carlisle apologised "I know my own kind Lucas and most of them act without thinking, quickly choosing violence before learning the truth of situations and about the people they will affect, I am different to them, I find human life a sacred thing to be preserved not mercilessly killed when there is another way. I also understand you can not enforce all beliefs on to other people, so I feel the need to apologise for their actions because you should not have been forced to suffer at the expense of my kind" Carlisle was relieved when he agreed not to hurt his coven this meant his family was safe and this was the most important thing to Carlisle "I understand and I hope you are aware that the same applies to you" He added in response, he could understand the shifters attacking if one of their own were lost and if the same happened to his family he knew they would seek violence as well.

Lucas had been very cautious and careful when it came to Carlisle. It had mainly to do with the fa t that he was a blood sucker. It did not matter what type of blood he drank he still was a blood sucker. Lucas said" To me it does not matter if a vampire is a human drinker or a animal drinker it still means they drink blood. I am sorry if that offends ou but that is how I feel.It mainly has to do with the fact about my father and how he died."[/b[ It would never change the view of Lucas. He could tolerate being around gthem but he could not be friends with them. Lucas asked" So about these other packs how well do you kn ow them? I like to get to know stuff about people before i actually meet people."Lucas heared that Carlisle actually apologized about the vampire that he never met or heard of.
Lucas said" Yeah a lot of people of different species are like that . They act before they think. Sometimes in my opinon it could turn out good. Especially if it affects vam[ires.Although humans can be stupid and do stupid things that does not mean they shojuld be wiped out.You are a better man that I am. I would never apologize for a stranger and what they did or did not do.I thought i already mentioned that part of no matter whoich side it is that if violence towards the other side will not be tolerated. If I did not then I will say I agree.So how m any of your coven are there?"

Aha it was his father that had been killed by vampires in his opinion that made it even worse, because from what Carlisle had observed about these packs they seemed to have strong bonds between father and son, so this made added sense to the hatred towards his kind. "We are very familiar with these other packs we have strong alliance" Carlisle was not sure how much to go into with his coven and the packs, he did not want to change or help to shape the opinion that Lucas had of this pack before he had met them, this was the best way they could achieve peace between them or at least it was in his mind. They had to keep an open mind of the old packs and Sam especially would have to keep an open mind towards them, if this happened then the peace would be able to be kept.
Lucas's words surprised Carlisle it seemed to have puzzled the young shifter that Carlisle had apologised and this had amused Carlisle a little, but as the boy went on to speak his thoughts they seemed to come to a better understanding of each other. From what he had said Carlisle deduced that Lucas was proud possible even to much especially by the way he used the term 'never apologise for a stranger' still there was hope in this shifter people's personalities could change that Carlisle knew after spending three hundred years around humans and shifters did not differ as much from them as vampires did. "In my coven there is eight of us including myself, however not all vampires we have a human and vampire hybrid as a part of our coven" It seemed best to make this clear now, he did not want this pack seeing Renesmee and jumping on the theory that she was a young child they had bitten otherwise peace between them could come very differently and he did not want another outcome similar to the volturi with this pack.
