Alyx leaned against the great entrance hall doors. Her right hand held the pamplets Aro had given her to hand to the guests as they entered the castle for the ball. He'd told the reason she was doing this instead of other important things was because the guests needed to be greeted with a more important Volturi member, rather then the unnamed lower guard members. But Alyx knew it was because she'd nearly torn Caterine, a lower guard member who annoyed her greatly, apart. The girl was still missing an arm. Alyx had cleverly hidden it in the back garden. She'd have to find it and return it to Caterine's room before the ball or the guests would be let in on the Volturi's secrets. Or they'd continue to gossip.
Alyx had returned only a mere six hours ago from collecting the number of attendees for the ball. All vampires would be attending, of course. It was annual and everyone loved to see the Volturi's home. Too many vampires believed they were good enough to join the elite guard. Most were recruited into the Volturi and that was for the lower guard. If only kissing up to the Masters worked for those perticular few. Alyx hated these balls and gatherings because of the vampires allowed into the Volturi's private castle. She'd only stopped a few handfuls of vampires attempting to steal something or sneak into the wives tower.
Normally, Alyx chose to supervise the events because it was easier to sneak away, whether with someone to accompany her or not. This year, she was just as lucly and managed to secure her usual position along with others of just supervising. She was awkward in social gatherings as a human and that did not change much as a vampire. However now, most feared her and avoided her unless to make an attempt at flirting or amusing the high guard member.
Alyx shuffled through the pamphlets. They gave information about the history of the city and the rules so long as the vampires resided in Volterra. No one was to hunt in the city blah blah blah. Alyx was bored, but she knew she couldn't risk leaving her post and getting yet another stern disapproving look from Aro. So she sighed and stared at the empty desk, where they had their human receptionist of the decade missing. It had been Demetri's turn for the human and now they'd need a new one after the ball.
