Her eyes gazed out the window as she watched the world around her with saddened red eyes. The moon rose high in the sky as the sun caused her tower to cast a shadow across the earth. Her hand rested on the edge of the window as she watched the people disappear from the grounds below her, and especially as the garden, with its high fences was abandoned to the night. She took in a sharp breath, tasting the salt from the sea and moving so that she was standing in the open window.
Then, as the last person disappeared inside and she heard the lock twist on her door, she leapt from the window into the night air, soaring quietly and landing cat-like in the garden. She dashed to hide behind the curtain of a willow tree, hearing a broken cry of her name fill the air as the guard who came to check on her looked desperately for her. She listened for her window to close and let out the breath she had been holding.
Then, in the night, she walked calmly about, her eyes looking upon each and every flower, and her fingertips trailing over them all. As she walked, she heard the rushing of others pass in the night, they knew where she was now and most likely her husband was either coming or sending someone to retrieve her. She gazed up at the moon with longing as a terrible feeling rushed through her body. It caused something to prick the edges of her eyes, and she blinked, not understanding what her body was trying to do. She had lost the ability to shed tears years ago, however, her body was trying to do so now.
She took in a sharp breath when she heard a presence right behind her, not bother to turn around to identify who it was. "I just wanted to see the moon... Let me stay for just a few moments longer." she pleaded rather wearily as she stood there, staring up at the white orb in the sky. Her hair glistened like a river of white gold down her back, contrasting sharply with the vibrant red of her dress. "Besides, I'm only in the garden. What fool would dare tread in the gardens of the Volturi?" she inquired as she turned around to face the one who had come to retrieve her, vibrant red eyes glittering mildly as she gave a soft smile to the other.
