JUNE, 2060 dear Charlie, I think I should introduce myself to you first. I’m Renesmee, but call me Nessie. This property belongs to me (I mean you, Charlie). So never question my ways of treating you, alright?
I don’t think I like writing journal a lot, but it is kind of fun. I hope writing journal will help me remember things that happen in my likely endless life. You know, even when you are a half vampire, you are no saint and that means sometimes you just cannot keep EVERYTHING in mind. Besides, writing journal will help me remember who I need to revenge later in life. Haha! But do not tell mother and father about that, okay? I will hate you forever if you do.
Anyway, you must have wondered why I call you Charlie instead of “journal” although you are actually a journal. I named you after my grandfather, who is no longer here with me anymore. He must be somewhere beautiful now.
Okay, so today was quite exciting. Guess who I met today! I met Siobhan - a friend of Carlisle's! I've heard about her once or twice. She's a very very very beautiful woman! I know vampires are beautiful, but she's very beautiful! And she's very nice too. She said that she had heard so much about me... Suddenly I was shy, I even blushed! I just love talking to her, although we did not talk much. After that, I had a short conversation with Mother, Uncle Jasper, Uncle Emmett and Aunt Rose. We talked about the coming ball which will take place in Italy! The Cullens are invited Yay! I’ve always wanted to go to Italy! But they did not seem as excited as I did. I wonder what can possibly go wrong during the ball. They said the Volturi always wants to add some of us to their collection of guards. That caused my worries, honestly. But I’m not afraid. I think it will be interesting. Yes, I still remember that almost battle when I was nearly executed. But it was fifty years ago. People can change, or maybe I’m too innocent. But I will never find out if I don’t go there. Besides, the ball is a great excuse to go shopping with Alice!
One problem. I don’t have a date. Jake cannot come as the Volturi (and maybe Emmett as well) will tear him apart if he shows up in such a place. Urgg... I thought of sneaking in but mother did not seem so happy about that. So no sneaking in. Fortunately, Rose said she would introduce some of her good friends to me. Aha! Problem is solved! I love Rose so much! She’s like a mother to me! Mother said that she would have to keep an eye on my aunt and me. You have to be careful, Charlie. Don’t draw attention!
Okay, I have to go and find Aunt Alice now. She will know what I should wear!

JUNE, 2060 dear Charlie, How are you today? Me? I’m good! Today was a peaceful day. I just cannot come up with something unusual as I usually do. Haha. However, I had a few minutes to think about the ball.
I’m still super excited about it! I cannot sleep without thinking about it. I even dreamed of it last night. Charlie, can you imagine how it’s going to be? I believe it will be awesome! There will be music and dancing and talking and laughing. Thinking of it has made me smile already. I will be able to meet new people! Maybe I can be like Carlisle someday. Do you know that he knows everyone? I mean EVERYONE. It seems like he has friends around the world. Wherever he goes, he can always find an acquaintance or a friend. Even Aro Volturi is one of his old friends too. That is so admirable. I want to be like that! The ball is possibly the right time to make some new friends.
It’s such a shame that Jake is not allowed to join. He’s a great dancer and I know we would have so much fun if he could go there with me. I guess I will have to go there by myself and return with hundreds of incredible stories to irritate him. He will be sooo annoyed. Haha! But…I haven’t told him about the ball since I know quite well how he will react. Jake will definitely panic and he will say that I am risking my life and the safety of my family. But Charlie, I’ve never been to a ball, I mean a really big one. I want to know how it’s like to be surrounded by strangers. Weird huh?
Okay, so everything about the ball seems so perfect, except one thing: I have to wear a dress! NO, I DON’T WANT TO WEAR A DRESS! I hate dresses (they are too girlish for me, don’t you think so?). How can you climb a tree while wearing a dress? How can you leap fifteen feet into the air while wearing that troublesome kind of clothing? Ugh…it makes me feel like I’m stuck in a fetter. I haven’t dressed like a girl since forever. I tried to adjust my sense of fashion once when I attended the home coming ball at school; but I still ended up wearing like a boy. Aunt Alice will not want me to come to a ball in a T-shirt, jeans and a pair of sneakers. Plus, I will probably irritate the Volturi with that look and that is the last thing I want to do. I’m very scared now. A dress is even more frightening than a flying cockroach!
I’m going to my panic room, Charlie! I’ll see you tomorrow.

JUNE, 2060 dear Charlie, I think I want to change your name into “Pizza”. Oh Charlie, I want to eat pizza so bad! I will definitely have to find Esme. Grandma Esme’s dishes are absolutely amazing, especially Italian food (and pizza in particular). A half vampire likes human food. That’s not so weird, is it? Well I entirely believe that I can live off pizza for the rest of my likely endless life. Haha. I’m serious. After our conversation, Charlie, I will find Esme right away.
Talking about Italian food, I accidentally think of Italy, where the ball will be held, again. Gosh… someone please take the ball out of my head. I am so excited as if the ball is my wedding. Charlie, I’m scared and excited at the same time. I’m afraid of the vampires I will meet at the ball but I’m also super excited about meeting them (okay, I admit it: I’m crazy). One thing that sets my mind at ease is that I won’t be there alone. Well, the Cullens will be there. Maybe for the peace between two covens but I think we’ll have fun. Alright…don’t blame me for being so optimistic. Why do I have to be pessimistic when I can avoid that? Hm… I wonder if there will be the waltz. I have no idea about that dance. I can do the flashmob… but not the waltz. I probably should ask someone to teacher me. Um…I really don’t want to say this but I don’t think I can ask Mother. Aunt Alice once told me about Mother and Father’s dance at their high school ball. It’s such a cute story though! Mom stood on Dad’s feet when they danced. Aw…that is sooo sweet! I swear no one on Earth could be a better husband than Dad. Aha! Dad! I should ask him to teach me how to dance. Why didn’t I think of that at the first place? But will he think I am overreacting and overly excited about the ball? Lately, I have to remain very calm in front of my family so as not to cause their worries. I don’t want them to think that I will be convinced to join the Volturi easily if they ever offer. Never mind, I’m just going to make up some stories about the home coming. But I must be very careful with my thoughts. It is hard to lie to your Dad when he is a mind-reader.
Alright, today Dad dropped me off at school. I had to suffer the whole day at school all alone since none of my family showed up. They all had their plans. I sat next to Heather – a friend in my Spanish class who has a crush on Dad (Haha!) – again today. We have grown quite close; but of course not close enough for me to reveal my family’s little secret. She’s a fun girl who enjoys punk music and Gothic style a lot. She kept on talking about my Dad today. Oh dear…I had to try so hard not to laugh out loud. I swear that she will faint or at least have a heart attack if she ever knows my Dad is already married and I am his daughter. I put up with her obsession all day at school. I decided to walk home after school as I wanted to play with my super speed a bit. When I got home, no one was there, except Mother and Father. They were talking about… school and homework, according to what they told me. Dad will have a history exam to take and Mom will have to make a speech tomorrow. I find it very amusing to see a mind-reader like Dad have to study for the exam. If I were him, I would never touch the books as I knew I could read the answers in the teacher’s head. I discovered that Dad had done it once and it did not work well as the answers in the teacher’s head were WRONG (as if he knew one of his students was a mind-reader). Dad of course did not want to make the same mistake so he decided to spend time studying. But he still has an advantage: he’s a vampire and that means he doesn’t need to sleep. He can spend all night long studying without feeling terribly sleepy. I envy him.
As we were talking, Dad heard someone’s thoughts and I realized a very strange yet familiar smell. We had a visitor. Dad wanted to know who it was but he did not let me go with him, for my safety. Oh Charlie, I’ve lived for over five decades and my parents are still treating me like a child. I admit that I am childish sometimes though. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a child, especially when my family is around. But I am a self-defenseless child in my parents’ eyes. That helps me get a lot of attention from my family but sometimes they are overprotective. Okay, back to the story! Our visitor was a shifter – a very young girl. She’s probably only fifteen or sixteen years old. I was curious about her. She revealed to us that her family had been in town for like… a couple weeks. I wonder if Jake knows about this. We had a nice talk. I like that girl quite much. She said my Dad reading her mind was CREEPY. Haha! I once wanted to tell my Dad the same thing. I realized that that girl and I had something in commons, like our being short-tempered. The conversation ended happily. I hope to see her again, and maybe I will as she does not live so far away from here. I’ll introduce her to Jake if I have a chance.
Okay, it’s enough for today. I have to find Esme now or I will die. Pizza, pizza, pizza! After pizza is the waltz. There are a lot of things to do. See you later, Charlie the Pizza. Haha.

JUNE, 2060 dear Charlie, I’m home, Charlie! School’s out (finally). Yeah…I’ve got the results of the final exams. Pretty good, I suppose. I’m quite disappointed with my Math exam (got a B+). Who needs to know all about the stupid numbers and the geometry? I’m not going to be the next Euler or Viète. Anyway, my first year at a public school is over. Next time when I restudy this grade, I will definitely beat that subject! But it’s summer anyway – I should try to stay away from any academic issues.
So…how was my last week at school? It was pretty awesome, especially the last Wednesday. You cannot imagine what happened, Charlie. Dad and I had an English class together. After the exams, Mr. Benson – an emotional old man – had something to share with the class. Well, he spoke mostly about his feelings for his students and how much he would miss us in summer. Then he went on and on about what life truly meant. Ugh…I thought I would have fallen as sleep if Heather had not thrown something at me. It was a crumpled piece of paper with a line of her handwriting. Oh dear…I almost burst out laughing; luckily I held it back. She asked me to help her with something that I found very amusing, though I would not help her in this case. I wrote back in response to her and I threw it back to her. I still keep the paper, I’ll show you.
Wah la! OMG, Charlie, Heather seriously had a crush on my Dad. What was I supposed to do then? Telling her that Edward Cullen is married and I am his daughter? She’ll think I’m crazy. Furthermore, I don’t want to give anybody a heart attack. We had kept having that illegal conversation for like… four or five times before Mr. Benson caught me not listening to his wordy speech. He told me to bring the paper to him and I did (what else could I do?). Much to my surprise, he read it out loud to the class. It was embarrassing…to Heather and me, of course. Everyone laughed (I did too, secretly though). Dad only giggled and sniggered. At last, Mr. Benson gave the piece of paper back to me then he said shortly while looking straight into my eyes: “Detention. After school. Do not try to run away or both of you will have to spend your precious summer sweeping the schoolyard.” And that’s it; Heather and I had to bring out pillows to the detention so as to sleep while Mr. Benson talked about respecting him when he made an educating speech. After the detention, Heather seemed rather irritated but she did not try to say anything me bringing the paper to the teacher. I was glad that my first true summer would begin with being hated by my best friend. I met Dad at home after school. He laughed (of course he did). I just frowned and blamed him for making me be punished. Well, if he had not been too attractive, Heather would not have had a crush on him. I did ask him to stop dazzling people but he said it was his instinct and he just could not control it (can’t believe it!). Mom seemed to enjoy watching the conversation between me and him. She sometimes commented that she liked being dazzled by him. And they kissed (eww). They are always like that!
Talking about kissing, I remember having quite a fun day last week. I came home when Dad and Mom were having two visitors. Well, only one of them was the visitor. The other was a stranger named Gazini coming from nowhere. Yuki Volturi is the visitor I’m talking about. I was quite tense at first to find out that she was a member of the Volturi. Nevertheless, Dad had faith in her and trusted her like he trusted his friends. Therefore, I started to relax a bit. She was a fun girl. We talked a lot (about Volterra, the ball and… stuff like that). I don’t remember very clearly what we talked about that made Dad kiss Mom right in front of me. Well, it’s good to see your parents love each other so much. Nevertheless, I’m allergic to romantic things! Moreover, I’m a CHILD. They poisoned a child’s head (ew…)! And I had to hide behind Yuki when they did that. Can’t believe it. I know Dad was trying to tease me, annoy me maybe. And he succeeded. (ew…)
About the stranger named Gazini, before I saw him in my house, I had bumped into him on the street. Small world. I wondered what he was doing in my house. Although he did tell me that the reason of his being there was that he had run across the house, I did not trust him completely. And he was so cocky! I apologized to him for bumping into him on the street but he did not take any notice of me and my apology. He just walked away like that. I may be a hybrid but my bite hurts!
I did have a fun week. Summer now. What to do? Before returning to Forks, everyday had been summer to me. Having a true summer for the first time, I literally don’t know what to do with it. Spending time with Jake and his pack… Sounds exciting but my friends have a lot of awesome plans for summer. I should figure out something epic to do in this summer.
Alright, I’ll tell you when I come up with something. Dinner time! Dad made Italian food (yay!).
