& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Aro's life had never been a walk in park, being the head of the Volturi was a full time position. He may not need to sleep. But even his duties take their toll on him and this is the fearless leader of the Volturi after all.
Aro had one place he could be alone, and that was his study. Only Jane and Alec had the permission to enter it as it was his inner sanctum so to speak.
Aro's day had been for a better word a nightmare. With the ball on the horizon and rumours of the Romanians showing up did nothing to ease his current state.
“if you want something fixed you have to do it your self.” He sighs again this time it was more of an is their anyone who can follow simple orders in his coven type of sigh.
Aro continued flicking though the pages of the many books he owned, he had collected them just as he did with his guard. He would even prize some of them above even his own guard.
As Aro was just starting to write on a scrap of paper a knock could be heard on the study door.
The sound would echo around the study. He knew It was, his dear one and an unique way of knocking on the door. Aro did kind of storm out of the meeting he was holding with the guards, as someone of them really annoyed him.
Did Jane come to check her Master, or just to do what she has always done stand beside him and guard as if her life depended on it.
For whatever reason Aro was glad he had someone he could count on, both Jane and her brother where like his own children.
But Jane was the one that would spend most of her time at his side “ Come in dear one, and please shut the door after you.”.

i know that i'm afflicted, BUT WHO COULD HAVE PREDICTED THE MONSTER THAT I'VE BECOME? it was a widely known fact that jane volturi was not a kind person. she rarely deigned to care about anyone; and as a general rule, she kept her heart mostly closed off. even if she wanted to be sympathetic (which she didn't), she doubted she truly could be anymore. she'd forgotten long ago how to care about anyone - save herself, alec, and aro. and, truly, she was content to keep her circle of "those i care about" to a minimal two people. oh, that wasn't to say she was going to spurn the other members - caius and marcus themselves held a spot in her heart, naturally, because they too had helped to save her and alec from the village - but there was no denying that, right after her twin, alec was quite likely first in her heart.
you can imagine her distress, then, when she watched aro storm out of their preparations for the ball in a bit of a mood. aro had always been a calm, collected man - the kind of man that didn't lose his temper easily, jane knew, so that meant that there must have been a myriad of things weighing on his mind. the idea that things had gotten that bad that quickly inspired her to brush her way through the other guards - a few unkind words coming from her lips, including "out of my way, imbecile," - and departed quickly to make her way up the stairs to where she presumed aro had gone.
when she knocked on the door, tucking a strand of golden hair behind her ear, she waited impatiently. she wanted to know now that things were or alright, or even if they weren't alright; jane had never been keen on waiting, and she almost exhaled in relief, unnecessary as it would have been, when she heard aro's answering of "come in, dear one." the blonde slipped inside, silent as a wraith, and shut the door behind her; when her carmine gaze turned to aro, there was the beginning of some kind of sympathy in her eyes - more than she'd ever shown anyone besides alec, anyway.
"i could punish them for their insolence," were the first words out of her mouth, and she did not regret them one bit as she moved across the room and stood, a ways away from aro, wary. "chattering like fishwives. cutting out their tongues would teach them better, perhaps."
well, she never said she was good at comforting.
she took a tentative step closer, clearing her throat now, regarding aro carefully. "but it is not just the ball preparations, is it? there is something else invading your thoughts."

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Aro. Did not make a habit of showing his feelings to anyone most of all to his guards. But Jane was the second closet person to him along with his wife and Renata and Alec.
The fact that his guard failed in their tasks, was one of many things invading Aro Volturi's mind. If anyone could read his mind at the current moment in time; they would soon find out why he was for a better word annoyed.
As he heard the door creek to a close, he would instantly know his dear one was close, but his thoughts where not his own, the ball preparations was but one issue playing on his mind.
The vision he saw over 50 years ago still haunts his thoughts to this very day. But if he told Jane what he really saw, how would she retract to it knows her Master and Alec and she would of fallen in battle that day.
“I could punish them for their insolence”.. The very words that Jane spoke made him smile a little. His dear one always knew what to say to cheer Aro up even if she did not notice she was even doing so. “Dear one.. even if I did have you punish them for their insolence it would not help to change my current state.
Aro was going to end up telling Jane what was invading his mind, but again how would she react to it. It all boiled down to the Cullen's... and the fact that that the Romanians where present showed they where still looking for away to bring down his coven. And that thought never left his mind ever.
“But its not just the ball preparations, is it. There is something else invading your thoughts. Once again Jane had hit the nail on the head, then again Aro would expect nothing less from his dear one. Aro turned and spoke once more.
“ Truth be told.. the Cullen’s have refused me far to many times, and it makes my blood boil. And to make matters worse.. I hear talk that the Romanians may try to crash the ball..”
*he then slam his hand down on the desk, almost to point of breaking it the echo would even be herd In the throne room but instead leavening a huge indent within the table its self.
“Dear one.. I trust you above all my other guards, you have been at my side though thick and thin. As your brother has been also.
But a change is coming one that will put your Masters life at risk; From many covens so for the time being I want you to remain at my side. Even when we within Volterra. When your on duty.
Aro rarely feared anyone, but his grand plan for the ball would make him more enemies then he already has. And if worst comes to worst he would count on Jane and Alec along with the rest of the guard to keep him protected. Which they have always done without fail.
His brothers did not even know what he had planned for the ball, but it would make people fear Aro more then they already did and that may not be the best course of action at the moment. “ Dear one if the Romanians do show up I want them dead.. I do not care who you have to kill to get to them.
His whole plan was based around single guard, this one guard would bring him ever so closer to even out the playing field with the Cullen's but again this could make the Cullen's attack the Volturi. Not that they would, but with Alice around Aro will always be one step behind the Cullen's.
And that makes him feel uneasy not knowing what may happen next, the pawns are moving the King is making his move, but will it be check mate, or will the battle rage for ever on. Only time would tell and that was something Aro had far to much of.

i know that i'm afflicted, BUT WHO COULD HAVE PREDICTED THE MONSTER THAT I'VE BECOME? there was no denying that it stressed jane to realize that aro was stressed. truly, he was their infallible leader. he had saved her from certain death; he'd given her the greatest gift of all (that was, in fact, keeping her brother in her life). without aro, jane might have been dead - or worse, living immortally without her twin by her side. she could not imagine what it might have been like to exist when alec did not; even when they were parted for a mere few hours, her fingers itched to reach and find his hand where only there was dead space. for this - the gift of never being without her near-identical twin - aro had jane's eternal gratitude.
now, to see this man who had been - always - strong and fearless and intelligent in front of her distressed left her stomach twisting. immediately, her mind sought for solutions on how to alleviate the strain. truly, she would have preferred to burden the weight for him if she could; to bear the brute of his problems would have been the least she could do, after all. she wasn't sure if he knew precisely how deep her loyalty for him ran without even chelsea's ability; even if he did, she would never be able to put into words how relieved she was that alec had survived along with her. she'd never been one for verbose platitudes anyway, though.
“dear one.. even if I did have you punish them for their insolence it would not help to change my current state."
aro's voice broke her out of her reverie, but the only indication she gave that her mind had been elsewhere was the slightest inclination of her head when her attention shifted back to her leader. "that is - unfortunate," she replied, her teeth digging into her cheek for a moment until it stung. "i find that the suffering of others often alleviates my stress. but if that is not the case with you -" she stopped herself; if it had been the case for aro, certainly he would have already tried it. stupid, she thought absently, the mental chastising a sharp bite to her ego. jane's mind was a little jumbled, to be fair - aro was bothered greatly by something, and here she was, grasping blindly for a way to help ease the strain.
hesitating only a moment, she took that time to evaluate, calculate - and then the slender wisp of a girl closed the space between them, the dark, velvet folds of her cloak rippling out behind her at the movement. there was barely a sound save for the hushed footfalls against the carpet; and when she stopped, she was but a foot away from aro, far enough that she was respectful, but close enough that she might comfort him with her mere presence.
and she listened. jane was good at that - listening, with a clear head and sharp, carmine eyes, where the line of her iris was a bloody ridge against the softer whites of her eyes. she tilted her head, watched aro steadily, and listened. and that was all she did for a while, until at great length, she parted her full lips and spoke.
"i will go wherever you need me," she said at last. "if that means i must be by your side at all times, then that is what it means. it's of no hassle to me." another pause; she would have sucked in a little breath, had she needed it, but she didn't - and the color of her eyes darkened from cerise to maroon for a moment. "as for the romanians - i doubt they will show up. unfortunately, they are not as stupid as they appear. they are far too clever o risk such a foolhardy move. but -" jane reigned in her temper; she disliked the romanians almost as much as she disliked the cullen shield, solely because the romanians continued to persist. she debated reaching out to do something - touch aro's shoulder, maybe, or something - but she had never been one for physical comfort, and doubted he would want it from her anyway.
"but if they do show up," jane said at last, a light smile coming to her lips, "then you can rest assured alec and i will destroy them. properly, this time."

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) That is unfortunate. Aro heard his dear one speak, Jane was always willing to do what was needed to ease her masters mind. He had never planned on venting like he did, most of all to Jane. He was suppose to set an example for her, and right now he was not acting like the leader of the Volturi or father he should be to her. So what kind of example would that set for?.
Aro turned and looked towards his dear one, he needed to snap out of this mood, it was no good for him or his coven. But he had faith in his brothers to run things for the time being well he collected his thoughts, and talking to Jane about it would appear to ease calm his mind. So she was helping him even if she was clueless to the fact.
find that the suffering of others often alleviates my stress. But that is not the case with you. Aro looked to her again, and spoke back Jane.. I wish I could just find a coven and kill them all, but alass I am in no frame of mind to do anything of such. He would then stand up as he began to pace up and down his study. Who could Aro kill to make him self feel better.
Or should he have Jane bring someone to him and then watch her torture him to death, all of his ideas sounded delightful, but Aro would become his old self at some point soon. Even Aro had a breaking point, even if he can hide it well. But the next thing his dear one would say would cheer him up some what, it was a start anyhow.
I will go wherever you need me, if that means I must be by your side at all times then that is what what it means. Its of no hassle to me. Aro nodded to her he was proud of what his dear one had become, he would simply smile to him as to show how proud he was of what she had become.
Dear one.. you do not know how much that eases my mind. You may think this is pointless, but at the ball you will see why I am worried, No one would dare try to kill me. The rats will remain in the dark where they belong. And where we can burn them out if needed. *lets out laugh and grins* Ants.. the lot of them. Nothing but mindless drones...
Of course he was talking about the people and covens that would want him dead. The list was quite huge to say the least, but being Head of the Volturi, one would expect to have enemies in high and low places. But for the moment, Aro was able to keep them in check.
