Fifty years ago their lives had been turned upside down. It had been an event to remember, one she could not forget no matter how much time had passed. They had been asked by their cousins, the Cullens, to come to their aid, to save their youngest member, a small child, of Edward and Bella’s. At first she had believed the child to be Immortal, as did Irina and Tanya. The three sisters had always been close and had grown up together. But things would never be the same when the Volturi had come and killed Irina much like they had their mother and brother. It was a sad thing. Not a day goes by that she didn’t think of Irina...or of Sasha and Vasilli. How she and Tanya had wanted to rip their throats out. It was because of their extended family, and most importantly in her case, Garrett that had stopped them from doing so. Tensions had been high then. Of course returning to Denali after it was all said and done....it was not the same. It never would be again.
That particular day she had been heading out of the house needing a hunt to quelch her appetitite. Normally Garrett was by her side but of course today he had other things to be doing....he wanted to go get a new toy and so she allowed it. She loved the man far more than she ever thought was possible. He was her mate and she had respected his interest in his little toys. A smile appeared on her face as she thought of Garrett being happy.
After a successful hunt, she returned towards their home. Their family had changed in dynamic since Irina’s death. Of course she had accepted that it was going to happen. They had lost so many coven members since she and Tanya were first turned. First their mother and brother, and then Laurant, and then of course Irina. She could still see Irina’s face every once in a while. The fact was, she thought of her sister more often than normal these days. Especially around the anniversary of her being brought into the family and when she had died. She still loved Irina and the others who had lost their lives rather violently. It wasn’t fair but alas life did move on, no matter how hard.
Alaska’s beauty never once changed as she kept her eyes peeled. Everyone was out and about or so it would appear. Tanya had been the first to leave that morning, followed shortly by Carmen and then Garrett. She had not seen Eleazar leave, and worried about her brother and sisters sometimes more than she should. She had never been as close with Carmen or Eleazar as she had been with Garrett or Tanya but she had hoped that would change over time. After a few minutes she walked inside the house and once she did, she caught the scent of Eleazar. He was home. She looked around and soon found him in one of his favorite places. It was remarkable how safe they were in this house. They didn’t have to travel the way that the Cullens did, which was a good thing. She liked this house. Even if it held memories that sometimes were difficult to let go of.
“Hey...I thought I heard you...where is everyone?” She asked Eleazar though she couldn’t help but smile when she saw him. She tried to be nice towards him whenever she could, it was easier now than it had originally been when he had first joined their family with Carmen. Still she kept her eyes on him, a mischevious glint in her eyes. Something Eleazar knew quite well.

Eleazar took an unneeded deep breath. He stared at the new Xbox which he had had to go all the way to Seattle to pick up; however, thanks to it, he had got a chance to see the Cullens again after such a long time. It was the newest Xbox model for 2060 which still did not hit the market. If he had not known a friend who worked for the company, he would have never been aware of its existence. It had taken him a whole day to put everything together and had it ready for action. But he had to wait a bit longer to begin the games since his little brother – Garrett was out on a hunting trip with whole family. Carmen was pretty upset when he refused to join them just to work with his new toy because she thought he loved the Xbox more than he loved her. At last, Tanya did him a favor and dragged her away before she could get mad at him. He remembered having to suppress a laugh when looking at his wife – a glint of childishness on her beautiful, flawless face made her look just like a pissed off little kitten. His kitten. He would have to do something to make up for her when she came back.
Eleazar glanced over the house which was drowning in odd silence. It was too quiet. He was seemingly the only thing that knew how to breathe in the room. Suddenly, some memories came back to his mind. His heart sank when he realized he could still hear laughter in the room and see five members of the Denali gathering around the table, talking to each other happily; he could still remember the happiness shown on each face, including Irina’s. The Denali’s indeed had had a very great time together – like a true family before Irina’s death. She was his sister after all and he cared about, worried about her like a true brother. In the three sisters of his, Irina seemed to be the most sensitive one, unlike Kate, who was pretty downright, very energetic and lively, and Tanya, who was so caring yet serious sometimes. She reminded him of a childhood friend – the girl that had studied in the church with him and always called him the brother she never had. It had not been easy to stand there, do nothing except watching her being executed by the Volturi. How painful. It was certainly unbearable to all of them, especially Tanya and Kate. It was fifty years since that day. Everyone still lived, but in grief. Tanya and Kate never showed even a single tinge of sadness on their face. They seemed perfectly fine. Nevertheless, Eleazar noticed that his sisters sometimes stared aimlessly at the empty space in front of them, as if they were trying to search for something so close yet so fat away. Witnessing that broke his heart although it had stopped beating over three centuries ago. Still, he never tried to comfort them but let Carmen do that instead, because he did not know what to say. He could not tell them that everything would be okay because it wouldn’t. He could not tell them that they would find someone to replace her place because no one could fill up the empty space which Irina had left in their hearts when she died. The only thing he could do for his sisters was smiling at them everyday, to remind them that their brother was there for them, always. And nothing could change that. Anyhow, now that Garrett had joined the family, things had got much better. Tanya and Carmen had another brother to take care of. Kate had a soulmate to torture, and also to count on. To him, Garrett was surely a very special brother who always backed him up when the ladies ganged up against him and claimed video games were stupid. A smile crossed his face when he thought of that. The house would be full of laughter and happiness again – he promised.
Eleazar gasped when someone said “hey” to him from behind. He had been lost in thought until a familiar voice talked to him, pulled him back to Earth from Mars. He did not have to turn around to know who it was. Still, the big Denali brother turned around to face his little sister, chuckling as he saw the mischievous glint in her eyes. He looked around, searching for other members of his family. None of them had returned yet. So his sister decided to stay at home instead of going hunting. Within a blink of an eye, Eleazar was right next to her. He patted her head playfully with a grin on his face. Do you know a person on a daydream is very easy to be startled, little sister? He let out a laugh. He would not be surprised if someday Kate scared him to death. She was very good at giving people a heart attack. Luckily, only humans had heart attacks and he was no longer a human. Eleazar had never been very close to his sisters, though he did care about them so much. Carmen was the one who was closer to them. It was understandable because they were women and some of them had negative thoughts about video games. One of the reasons why there was a gap between him and his sisters was that they indeed had some differences. Besides, Eleazar found himself enjoying watching his family from distance, taking care of them and protecting them in silence instead of actually joining them in a talk or something similar. Nevertheless, he always wanted the gap between them to disappear so that they would be more like a true family and he would have a chance to be a better brother to them. He always wanted that but never dared to close the distance. Maybe now was time to get started. I believe they haven’t return from the early hunting. I think Carmen was pretty angry with me because I chose to be with my Xbox instead of joining her in the hunting. He grinned as his gaze settled on his toy. So…she probably won’t be back until late. Maybe Tanya will stay with her. He shrugged slightly then turned to face Kate. I thought I saw you leave with them. What made you stay, sister? He asked curiously since he hardly saw Garrett leave her side. [/blockquote] tagged: kate denali :] occ: thank you for starting the thread! <3

Alot had changed in the last fifty plus years. Some times things just happened and in this case it was not for the best. Fifty years ago, she had lost someone very close to her and therefore she felt more careful about how close she had gotten to others around her. With Irina’s death it took alot out of her. No one should have to witness what she and Tanya had to...to see their own sister’s head ripped from her body and her body burned to ash. It was a sickening thing to see. If it hadn’t been for her mate, Garrett, and the others who had interevened she knew without a shadow of a doubt that Tanya and herself would not be there now. They wouldn’t still be alive. And she wouldn’t have known if it would have worked between herself and Garrett as before him she was not exactly known for being a one man type of woman. Just like Garrett had to adjust to a new diet so at first it was quite a challenge for both of them but somehow, someway they made it work.
Not a day went by that she did not find herself thinking about Irina, or her mother, Sasha, or her brother Vasilli. Each of them had found themselves a target of the Volturi, so she immediately held a distrust for that particular coven though it had only gotten worse when Irina had been killed by them. Yes she understood that rules were there for a reason but that was not the point. She understood why her mother was killed, didn’t mean she had to like it. And then of course with Vasilli she felt bad for him as he got killed simply because he was created as a child. Which of course was against the Volturi’s laws, which was how both her mother and Vasilli died at the same time.
When it came to Eleazar, he was a good brother as he was always helping her and Tanya out. She took a deep unneeded breath as she looked around their family home. She couldn’t help but be happy for their family now. They’d grown closer over the past fifty years. She loved her brother, even though they were not as close as they ought to be, but she hoped one day that would truly change. She had been glad of one thing, when she had found Garrett not only had it been helpful for her but it also meant Eleazar was not the only male in the Denali household. Not to mention Eleazar and Garrett did share the hobby of video games. Something she and her two sisters did not understand, nor did they care to. The three women ganged up on the two males more often than not, especially since the boys preferred to play with their new toys than to really want to spend time with them.
It was fun to tease the boys about their gaming habits, as she was sure it often got old and fast for the two boys as they were outnumbered. A smirk appeared on her face as she thought of how often she and her sisters picked on the boys about it. Today of course was one of those days. Tanya had taken a reluctant Carmen and Garrett out hunting with her. She was supposed to go with them but decided it wasn’t necessary so she had stayed at home. She figured this would give Garrett, the love of her life, a chance to bond with Tanya and Carmen. She just hoped they didn’t pick on him too much. But she knew he was certainly capable of taking care of himself if that should happen as Garrett was the resourceful type. One of the things she had loved about him. That and the fact he was the only one who could calm her down when she was very upset and wanting to shock others. Such as what had happened after Irina’s death.
It had been pretty funny to see Tanya drag Carmen and Garrett with her, as Carmen did not want to go on the hunt without Eleazar which was a fact that she understood as she had felt the same way about Garrett but in certain situations it was probably healthier not to be around eachother all of the time since not only did they all live under one roof, but they were used to doing everything together all of the time. Garrett had been somewhat more understanding than Carmen had been, but he still hadn’t liked it. But she had assured him that she would be there when he returned. And that once he returned he could play games with Eleazar while she spoke to their sisters. It was an interesting family dynamic that the family seemed to have. Tanya was of course it’s leader, which she was grateful for as she was not the one to have to decide everything all of the time. She was more wild and crazy than her sister was. Tanya could be overly serious but overly caring too, Irina had been the sensitive one, and she was the one who had always been the energetic, lively and downright crazy at times. This particular day with the other three gone, the house was too quiet. It was kind of eerie really. Some memories were better left in the past.
There were moments in her past that she ultimately remembered were fond and happy memories. Of Tanya, Irina, Carmen and Eleazar around the table just like she had been. How they had conversed and how they had made eachother laugh. Like a truly normal family would be. There wer still moments like that now, but they were different. Irina’s death had created an impact on all of them, but especially on her and Tanya. They had known her the longest and it had been very difficult to keep calm knowing what was about to happen. It had not been easy to stand there, to do nothing except to watch in horror as Irina was executed by the Volturi. Though she was not the first and not the last. They had lost a handful of their coven members over the years. First being their mother, Sasha, and their brother Vasilli, then came Laurant who had been Irina’s mate, and then last but certainly not least, their sister....Irina. Even though it had been fifty years since Irina’s death, things still were not the same. She and Tanya were living but they weren’t able to exist in the way they once were able to. It was the kind of grief that had echoed on throughout the years, someting that she couldn’t change.
Although she might not visably show the signs of being upset or sad about Irina’s death did not mean that she was that cold hearted. It was that she knew if she broke down now, she would act recklessly and bring about certain death for her family members. She and Tanya had the same problem though as both of them sometimes looked out into the vast area around them and it was as if they were searching for something. Something that was so close and yet so far, and the best way to describe it was how she felt. Irina had been so close, the memory of her was close to their hearts but yet so far away knowing that she would never again enter their home...and smile and laugh the way she used to.
To everyone else they seemed perfectly fine, because it was the only way they knew how to be. After witnessing the deaths of two family members before Irina..and knowing of Laruant’s...it was more than enough. If her heart was still beating it would have been ripped out of her chest as Irina’s death had been the worst. It would never be okay again. There was no way to fill the empty space that Irina had left in their unbeating hearts. Eleazar had not comforted her and Tanya but he had always been there for them and smiled at them every day which was a comfort while Carmen was the one to do the talking. The one to point out and ask if something was the matter. She loved them for it, she really did. It was a relief, at last to her, that Carmen and Eleazar were always going to be there for her, no matter what. Things got better after Garrett had joined their family, no it did not fill the void that Irina’s death had left, but it had been helpful. To have Garett there as he was her soulmate, the love of her life, and her reason for existing. She had counted on him more than she had ever imagined she would, when he had held her despite her shocking him, as Irina was brutally killed and in the days after they returned to Denali.
Although the family dynamic was different it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Soon enough they would have more laughter and happiness. Even if sometimes in her mind it was forced, though it might not appear that way. She couldn’t help but chuckle as she had spooked her brother. It was funny in all honesty. She had a mischevious glint in her eye which usually meant she was up to something. But that she wouldn’t give it away right off the bat. The others usually had to work to figure it out. She couldn’t help but smile as within a blink of an eye, if vampires could blink, like normal humans, Eleazar was right next to her. Of course she had expected the others to return at any given moment. She chuckled lightly before answering her brother’s question. “Yes of course. Why else did you think I would do it? You know you love me for it anyway. But why are you patting me on the head? I’m not a dog you know. Though I’m certain I could find you one if you’d like.” She teased her brother. She had been known for giving people heart attacks but luckily for vampires like herself and her brother they didn’t necessarily have that problem. As only humans did. Although she and Eleazar had not been that particularily close she did love him as much as she had loved Carmen too, though she was closer to her in the end. Albeit she wasn’t as close to either of them as she was with Tanya and Garrett but she hoped maybe one day if they were fortunate enough, they’d get closer.
The truth was Eleazar was different than the rest of them, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. She often knew that he was the one watching out for their family, almost from a distance, taking care of them, and to protect them in a silent partner sort of way. It did get a bit old sometimes as she couldn’t speak for the others but there were times where his input would be something worth listening to, except if he sided with Garrett....as that could sometimes be a scary thing. She truly did want the gap between herself and the others to disappear. What she had always wanted is a close knit family. Something they’d all have to work at if that was what they all had wanted. It was so that they could be more of a true family. Like most families they saw on the streets or even on television. Eleazar was of course the best brother to have though she would never come right out and say it. She had never really tried to close the gap between herself and her brother. Now of course seemed like as good as any to try. “Yes, I know. Well Carmen didn’t want to go by herself and I can’t say I blame her. You know she always feels better when you’re with her. And why did you choose that blasted x-box over your wife? That doesn’t make any sense as to why an inanimated object deserves more attention than your wife. I swear sometimes you’re just as bad as Garrett is.” She spoke as she eyed his new toy. There were tims where she often thought of breaking it but knowing Eleazar and Garrett they’d just end up going out and buying a new one if she did something like that.
So she refrained from doing so. “You’re probably right, about them coming back late.” She smirked as she said this. Oh how angry Carmen had been and Garrett hadn’t been very happy when she had told him she was staying behind. He had wanted to stay behind too but she had told him he needed to hunt and that she would be waiting for him upon his return. “I was going to but I changed my mind. I think though the more important question is why didn’t you go? It’s rare for you to leave Carmen’s side just like it is for me to leave Garrett’s. But if you must know, I thought it’d give Garett some time with the two of them alone, so that maybe he might be able to get to know them a little better, without my being around.” She hadn’t known why Eleazar stayed behind.

The silence of the residence brought a lot of thoughts to his mind and made him completely forget about his shiny new toy. Many things had changed in the last fifty years. Half a century was not a short time, but not a long time in some cases. It was probably long enough for a person to recover from the pain of losing someone important but never enough to feel okay again. That pain would still stay there, right in the heart of the person in the next half of a century. Nevertheless, saying that did not mean never would he and his family get a chance to be happy again. The most important thing in this life was always keeping hopes. Eleazar remembered the priest at the church telling him once about the story of the Pandora’s box – the box of evils. Pandora was a human girl created by Zeus and sent to Earth with a box containing many evils. The girl let the evils came out and infected the Earth when she could not resist her curiosity and opened the box. No sooner had she realized what she had done than she immediately closed the box; and had accidentally kept back something inside the box – hopes. The priest had taught him that this life could be evil and tough; but there was always hope hiding somewhere, maybe in the darkest alleys of the hearts, the empty souls or even the worst pains. Better life would come to those who held on tight and never let go, believed and had faith in the life; because everything happened for a reason. Losing Irina was indeed painful but it was not the end of the world. Everyone in the Denali knew that. They had moved on and lived. The loss made them stronger. Eleazar was absolutely proud to be a part of the family. And probably, from somewhere, Irina was very proud of her family.
Eleazar let out a sigh along with a laugh as he heard his sister reply to his question. It was truly Kate – the girl that never grew old with time, both mentally and physically. And he loved it about her. It was good to have an optimistic view of life, despite its being full of tragedies. Well, probably because of her optimism, he always saw her as a little girl, a little sister of his, although she was in fact a lot older than him. He liked treating her like a child and was very protective of her, just as he had done to Irina. He smiled softly at Kate then said in response to her. Yes, sister, that is what I love about you. Nevertheless, I am old you know. Old people cannot handle surprises. And I won’t be surprised if someday I am scared to death by you. He said. Well, he was perfectly fine with the little heart attack she had given him. Eleazar chuckled as his sister questioned why he had patted her on the head as if she was a puppy. The idea of her getting him a dog was pretty amusing that he let out a laugh. Because you are my sister, Kate. I don’t pat strangers on their head, dear sister. And having a dog sounds like a very good idea. I actually thought about that sometimes. Since you suggested it, it’ll be so rude of me to refuse your kindness. A shifty grin appeared on his face. Having a pet could be a new trend for him to try. He was not close to something that could eat food for quite a while. He and his dog could play catching thrown stick sometimes and Carmen would like it when he stayed away from his “stupid” video games. Only Kate could come up with something as amusing as having dog in the family of bloodsuckers. Eleazar was quite used to listening to her crazy ideas and he knew he would miss them so much if someday Kate did not talk about them. But to someone with such a great imagination, it was seemingly impossible to make her stop scheming unimaginable things. Kate was indeed unique – no one could be half as insane yet adorable as she was. A girl full of surprises. His sisters really had him wrapped around their fingers. Despite not being very close to her, he loved her very much and would do everything to protect her, like a good and protective brother would do to his little sister.
Eleazar really had no idea why he was so different from other members of the Denali. But it seemed like his family respected his differences and took them as personal traits of him – which made their Eleazar today. Never did he felt lost and alone among the people who were so different from him like the Denali’s. In fact, he felt complete when they were around him, which he had never felt when he was still a part of the Volturi guard. He was glad he had met Carmen and decided to leave. The main job of a guard was to serve the masters and the coven, not to take care of them. There was no love, only loyalty and responsibilities. Well, it was understandable in some respects, since the Volturi was an organization – not a family like the Cullens or the Denali’s. And he obviously had been cut out for that life style. If he had been one of the guards, his eyes would have never been a part of the Denali’s and never would he have known what a true family was. He sighed badly, smiling tragically as Kate claimed that he was as bad as Garrett when choosing a stupid Xbox instead of his lovely wife, whom he loved wholeheartedly. He knew Kate and the ladies always had negative thoughts of video games, which he and his brother, Garrett, were apparently fond of. Kate sometimes wanted to tear it into pieces but she knew quite well that Garrett and he would manage to get a new one anyhow. But she was right this time – he was rather bad to his wife when letting her go hunting on her own but the Xbox was not the only reason that kept him back. It was a good reason to tell Carmen so as to make her let him stay, but not the only one. You’re right. It’s understandable when she gets mad at me. He said, feeling like a schoolboy in his detention. He smiled again, listening to Kate explain the reason why she had chosen to stay. That is very thoughtful, sister. You made me surprised. Not only could she give people a heart attack, she could also bring their hearts together. That was the little sister he was so proud to have.
When Kate asked him why he had not joined the hunting, Eleazar realized that she was more sensitive than he thought she was. She had figured out that the Xbox was not a proper reason for him to stay behind. It’s true. He nodded, agreed with the fact that he hardly left Carmen’s side. I just needed some time for myself to think, Kate. He admitted eventually. His smile faded slightly. Eleazar could not point out what exactly he was thinking about. He simply thought of everything. I’ve suddenly realized how old I am now. But I still cannot understand why everything is so new to me. He lowered his voice as he spoke, recalling his visit to Volterra a few weeks before. He had no intention of letting Kate be aware of that since she would be worried for sure. His sister had had enough things to worry about; furthermore, he did not want to become the one to be taken care of. Volterra had been his home sweet home before he met Carmen – the love of his life. Eleazar never regret having left the Volturi and he would never do that because he knew what he had done was right. Nevertheless, he had never regretted joining them either because he once had been a guard in the Volturi; therefore, the pride of a proper guard still lingered somehow, somewhere inside of him. Although their acting on gaining power – not justice like he had always thought – in what they called Renesmee’s trial fifty years earlier had disappointed his view on them, he respected them still, maybe not as much as he had done but respects were respects because he had considered them as his family once. Nevertheless, in his return to his former home, the only thing he had received from them was contempt and threatening. Eleazar honestly had not expected them to be kind or even polite to him because he understood he was considered a betrayer, but he had hoped that they would not be so…heartless like that. Everything he was to them now was nothing more than an outdated toy which was no longer valuable since he was no longer loyal to them anymore. The former guard did not really mind being treated that way since it would have been very weird if they had had treated him kindly. Nevertheless, the visit brought some questions to his mind: was it that easy to go to sleep as a friend and wake up as an enemy to those who once had been your family? Did it happen to everyone or just the Volturi’s betrayers? Had he really been a part of something so cold and greedy like that? Did a person’s value only depend on the period of time when his power was still useful to his coven?
In a second, Eleazar suddenly found out the answer.
I’ve also realized that I am so lucky to be right here, right now, with Carmen, you, Tanya and Garrett. He stated tenderly with a smile.

As silent as the house could be, it had brought alot of things to her mind in which she had not thought of in quite some time. Things had changed in the past fifty years, some things were for the better and some were not. In some aspect fifty years could be considered a long time but for her it was like a blink of an eye. She did not think that fifty years was enough to make her okay again after losing Irina, but she had come to accept that it had happened. Although she had in a certain sense recovered from the pain that Irina’s loss had made in her heart, she would never be as she once was.
Although she never spoke the words of how painful it was to see Irina die, it had stayed buried in her heart, like she had done when her mother and Vasilli were killed. The most important thing she had now was hope. Hope that it would get better. And yet still she had something out of it all. Something that had kept her from truly falling apart. Garrett. Without him, she would not have been able to keep going, she would have fought against the Volturi and most certainly she would have died too. She knew that Irina’s death was not the end of the world, or as life as they knew it, but it had impacted them nevertheless. They were able to move on, and to grow stronger within their own family unit. The bond was stronger now. She was proud of it too. She only hoped that if Irina was out there somewhere, that maybe she would have been happy for their family, and proud of them too. Time of course was something they had plenty of.
She had never really aged, or grown old with time the way that most others had. Eleazar had always acted as though she was some kind of a young girl. Because of her optimistic side and how much of a handful she could be at times. Eleazar was a pain in that he liked to treat her like a child, which was ironic given she was his older sister after all. She couldn’t help but smile at her brother and had been okay with the fact that he was protective about her. “I know brother but age is nothing but a number. Besides we both know I’m older than you are, you just like to act like the older brother. Which I love that about you. But you should know that despite how old you are, that having lived with me for as long as you have that you would have gotten used to the surprises.” She chuckled.
“That’ll be the day. The day when the great Eleazar Denali falls dead by a heart attack.” She had to tease him, it was just something the two of them had always done. She could hear her brother’s laughter and it made her smile. “Yes well, I’m well aware that you’re my brother, Eleazar after all I have had to put up with you for a very long time. I know you don’t pat stranger’s on the head, that might get you some funny looks. Though it would actually be quite amusing. You’re kidding right? Please tell me you’re not going to go and get a dog! What would Carmen say to that? It wouldn't even last an hour alive.” She asked her brother as she knew her sisters well enough to know none of them would want a dog in the house, no matter if it was a shifter or otherwise.
A grin appeared on her face. She was of course coming up with new schemes all of the time and often Garrett would be the pawn in them, as would Eleazar. She did enjoy throwing them into all kinds of insane propositions. Still having a dog within a family of bloodsuckers would be something new. Different even though if they did get a pet, such as a dog, the dog would not last but maybe a couple hours if that. She was the only one who would be known for throwing out things of the crazy and insane notions but it was all in good fun really. She’d never do anything to truly put her family in danger. Still sometimes she thought about not saying anything quite insane just to see the reactions of her family members’ faces. Yes she was not as close to Eleazar or Carmen the way that she was to Tanya or Garrett but maybe someday that would actually change as she did love both of them fiercely the way a sister would. Love of course had taken it’s own time, to have the kind of bond they had now with one another.
It had never bothered her that Eleazar had once been a guard to the Volturi. It was all in the past. The main difference between the Volturi and that of her own family and that of the Cullens was that the Volturi from what she had seen was all but an organization. There was loyalty and responsibility but no love or truly taking care of one another. Yes of course she and their sisters got mad at both Eleazar and Garrett because their video games had taken a priority more often than not. It was something that they had a negative reaction to. Of course all of them realized that Garrett and Eleazar were not complete without having those little video games and there were more times more often than not when she wanted to break them all into tiny little pieces but she knew the boys would only buy more so it was kind of pointless. She loved Garrett so she would forgive him when he picked the games...though it did not stop her from being angry once in a while.
“Yes, of course. It’s just the same for me, when I get mad at Garrett. Of course unlike me, Carmen has no way of shocking some sense into you. Not that it’s ever stopped Garrett when I’ve done something along that line.”
She chuckled as she looked at her brother. “Well I do have it in me, even if I am quite difficult sometimes. Though I am not the only one in this family that is quite difficult.” She had spoken to her brother. The truth was she was proud of their entire family and of how much they had gone through together and yet still remained as close as they were.
“Thinking is good, but it also depends on what you’re thinking about dear brother.” She told him honestly. With all that had happened in their long lives she knew that sometimes it felt as though they were back to where they started. “Believe me, I know the feeling. I’ve just learned to take things one day at a time and go from there.” She had looked at her brother with an eyebrow raised. She may not know Eleazar as well as the others did but she did have a pretty good idea about what could be in his head. She was always worried about her siblings, and her mate especially. Still not a day went by that she did not think of things. The chaos that had happened fifty years ago with the Volturi, she could sense the tensions, even between Eleazar and the Volturi. He’d left them. He’d done that, and she was proud of him for it as without him, their family would not have been complete. As without him they wouldn’t have enjoyed Carmen’s company either and that would have been a shame. She had not known specifically of where Eleazar had gone to a few weeks before though she had her ideas. She had kept Carmen busy so that Carmen hadn’t noticed it when he was gone. At least not more so than usual. When it came to the Volturi, she did not like them. She respected the rules and that kind of thing but for what they stood for, she did not like. With good reason, after what they had done to Irina, as well as her mother and Vasilli. She thought of them often but kept her thoughts to herself as it would not do any good at all to bring it all up now.
“I cannot speak for the others, Eleazar but I’m glad you are right here with us. This family would not be the same without you in it. Just like it would not be the same without Carmen or Garrett for that matter. Tanya and I wouldn’t be who we are without this family.” She stated in a tenderly tone, much like Eleazar was used to. She loved her family and would do anything for them. “So while we’re on the subject...where did you run off to a couple weeks ago..you left so suddenly. And Tanya and I had to keep Carmen from running after you. If it weren’t for Garrett she might have succeeded. She was kind of moody while you were gone...you know how much she loves you and doesn’t like it when you’re not with her.” She had not known where Eleazar had gone but she was curious and since they were talking she figured he might open up to her a little bit more.

Age was just a number. It was true to someone. Vampires, for instance. Eleazar had no idea whether being able to live forever was a gift or a punishment. Someone had told him that the death made life beautiful. He had thought about that several times. When age does mean something in your life, you’ll learn to treasure what you have because you know you don’t have enough time to lose it then get it back. If death is a certain thing that definitely will happen to you, you’ll learn to live worthily so as not to regret when your time comes. Being a vampire meant that he had all the time in the world to waste because the Death could take away someone who had already died. The immortal life gave him time to spend with his loved ones. He had no worries about having to leave them someday. Nevertheless, immortality also meant that there was no exit from the cruelty of life. Irina’s death was an example. If he had been a human, he would have been able to believe that the pain would go away when he died, and he would see her again someday, in heaven – where the good souls were. Eleazar did not have a soul anymore, no vampires did. And it was for sure that he, along with his entire family, would have to live with the pain of losing Irina forever.
He knew that Kate and Tanya had to suffer even more than he did because this was not the first time they lost someone they loved so much. Eleazar knew that the Denali’s would have had a mother now if the tragic past had not happened. Sasha – the creator and beloved mother of the Denali sisters – had created an immortal child named Vasilii. Both of them had been executed by the Volturi because of the ultimate crime Sasha had committed. Eleazar had never seen the mother and her child because they had been executed before he was born; but he had nothing but respects for her. Somehow, he thought she was so brave, not stupid but brave. Everyone questioned who Vasilii was; what he meant to her to make her cross the lines, which were clearly uncrossable. Eleazar had done the same thing. But something was just simply unexplainable. But the thing that mattered was that Tanya, Kate and Irina had lost the mother they had always loved. And fifty years earlier, they Kate and Tanya once again had had to face the tragedy when Irina’s mistake had resulted in her death at the hands of the Volturi. Vampires’ emotions were stronger than humans so the pain they had to go through was a thousand times worse. And they would have to live with that forever literally. So could immortality be considered a punishment in this case? Of course, immortality was the dream of many humans. Why so? Possessiveness was everyone’s nature. No one wanted to lose but to keep all the time. When you are immortal, you never have to let go of what you have. Immortality is truly a gift in this case. But life is life; it’s never easy. Nevertheless, not being easy did not mean not being full of happiness and hopes. But I look older than you, sis! I thought girls like to be the younger ones in the family. Eleazar claimed, smiling childishly as Kate stated that she was older than him. It was true and it was the fact that he tried to ignore all the time. Yeah…I should have been used to your deadly hobby by now. I guess I am not very flexible or adaptable. Anyhow, I’m available for trainings. He shrugged playfully. He laughed out loud, which he did not do very often, when Kate teased him and called him the great Eleazar Denali. You would miss me badly if that ever happened, sister.
He chuckled as the whole pet thing was referred. One of his odd hobbies and habits was patting Kate on the head. It was so much fun seeing her pouting and making the face, trying to point out that she was in fact the older one. He nodded determinedly when she asked him if he was serious about getting a dog. I think it’ll be fun to have something that does breathe in the house. Carmen does not hate animals. I’ll talk to her. He grinned. Maybe I’m going to name it after you and pat it on the head all day. He teased his sister. As long as you don’t shock it, it’ll be fine. Eleazar was well aware that Kate was never going to do that, though it was fun teasing her a bit. The Denali’s were never most comfortable with being around shifters and probably that was the reason why no one would one a dog in the house. He did not want to annoy his family at all, maybe his little sister but not his entire family. It was best for him to give up the idea of getting a god obviously. But he would try having a dog someday, when they got on well with the shifters. Someday, definitely. And he had a good feeling that the dog would live happily with the Denali’s, even with Kate. She was quite fierce but a good soul – a perfectly good heart.
Once a family, always a family. And family members do not judge each other. That was to describe the Denali’s. Ironically, the Volturi was the reason of Sasha and Vasilii’s death. Eleazar understood that his sisters respected the laws as much as he did but they never liked the Volturi. How could anyone expect them to like the reason of their mother and brother’s death? Nevertheless, surprisingly enough, they seemed to have no problem with his being a former guard of the Volturi. They had warmly welcomed him and Carmen when he first met them. They had shown him the way to live a compassionate life he had always wanted by living off of animal’s blood. And moreover, they considered him as their family. Eleazar was very grateful. Despite what he had done, his former coven had done to them, they took him and his wife in, letting the two of them be a part of the family. That was what he loved about them: forgiveness and tolerance. Eleazar chuckled when Kate spoke to him. Carmen is very gentle. She would not try to shock me if she had such power as yours. He grinned at the younger sister of his. Kate was a hot head and rather risky, adventurous while Carmen is much calmer, more careful and more circumspect. Maybe that was what Kate look like a younger sister to both Eleazar and Carmen though the fact was that Kate was much older. Well, Kate would not be Kate anymore without her temper and guts. That was what he and his wife loved about their sister. Maybe being difficult is something we have in common. He grinned.
The conversation got a bit serious when Eleazar revealed the reason he had decided to stay. Kate ultimately stopped being childish. He was quite surprised when he looked at her lovely face. There was a tinge of experience shown on her face for a few seconds but it soon vanished, giving him back the mischievous little sister. Eleazar truly felt better as he realized sympathy in her voice. A smile grew on his lips, showing how happy he was to know that Kate was glad to have him there with the family. What she said was priceless to him. One good deed could change the world. One good encouragement could throw away the burdens on one’s shoulders. Thank you, Kate. I don’t know what to say…I think I’m going to cry. He said half serious half joking. But wholeheartedly, he was grateful for everything his sister did for him. What you said means a lot to me.
He suddenly felt that she was trying to read him, somehow. The way she looked at him made him feel like she was reading his mind, knowing every single thing going on his head. He wondered if it was true or he just simple thought too much. Then Kate raised the question and he immediately knew that she had been suspecting something. His running off. Eleazar could not plainly say that he had paid a visit to Volterra a couple weeks earlier because Kate would be furious and extremely worried, although his trip had not been on the purpose of meeting the Volturi. Besides, he was worried that his sister would be the one to tell his wife his little secret which he was waiting for the proper time to reveal. I visited a friend whose help I really needed that time. Pausing a bit, Eleazar continued hesitantly. Do you like secrets? He raised a brow as he asked.

The older she got the more she realized just how different life could be. It had it’s ups and it also had it’s downs. Part of her sometimes wondered why it was that she was chosen to be a vampire, not that she had regretted it. Her mother had been a very loving soul for a vampire, but if it hadn’t been for her mother wanting to save the life of a child....she would still be there today. It was something she had always known though never vocalized, not even to Tanya. It did not change the fact that she loved her mother or even her brother.
As difficult as eternal life could be without them, she and Tanya had coped the best way they knew how. By sticking together. She was very proud of her family...especially her mother who had always stuck her neck out for someone else. She did not regret the actions that led to her mother’s death, as her mother had made a choice, and although she missed her mother dearly, she did not blame her for the actions in which she had taken. Although being a vampire held immortality by it’s thread, time was something they could waste but would never truly grasped the concept of things the way a human would as humans could easily....die...and that death, that precious balance, was corrupted when it came to vampires. Vampires did not get the same peace of mind that humans do.
Death had proven that it could take anyone, whether human or that of an immortal. She had learned how to live responsibly and to be point blank, to cherish all the moments that she had been able to share with her family. Especially as one never really knew when that day might be their last, as unfortunate as it was.
That had been proven the night that Irina had been killed. It was why she treasured all the things that she and her family were able to do together. Death could take somone who had already....died once, and once that happened there were no second chances. That was it. The one thing about having an immortal life was that she got to spend it with the people she loved. With her mate, and her brother and sisters. They didn’t have the traditional mother and father matriarch that some covens, like the Cullens had but that was alright. They had Tanya and that was more than enough.
With Irina’s death....she had hoped that the pain would truly subside. Like that one day she would not feel the pain, feel the loss, resonating within. But it hadn’t happened that way and she couldn’t hope and pray that she would one day see her sister again. As a vampire she was damned...and so there was no chance of going to heaven where the good souls resided. No vampire had a soul so it was important to make the best of it. The truth was she would have to deal with Irina’s death forever. She and Tanya had faced more than she had hoped for. They had to witness not only Irina’s death but also that of their mother, Sasha’s, but that of Vasilii. All three of them had been murdred by the Volturi in execution style. Only Irina’s mate had been killed by the shifters. She respected her mother more than she could ever truly say. She had not questioned her mother’s reason for turning Vasilii when she had, but her mother had in fact cross the line which meant they had to watch in horror...unable to do something, as she and the child were brutally killed. She had to lose the mother she had come to know and love, all because of the Volturi. All because of the rules. And while she undertood and respected the rules, the second that the Volturi had killed her mother she had lost respect for them. And then with Irina’s death it made her truly hate them more than she ever thought possible. It was because of this that it was in part a punishment to truly live the life they lived, as they had to feel all the emotions stronger than the average human did. Which meant loss echoed not only within the first few years but even now she had felt it. But she wouldn’t be controlled by it.
She might not have had the easiest life, or afterlife, but....she would move forward. She had more happiness and a sense hope being with her family, that without them, especially Garrett she would not have continued living after all the tragedies in her life. “Well when you live as long as I have age is irrelevant. Besides I may look younger than you but that doesn’t mean you have to brag about it, like some teenager.” She chuckled as she looked at her brother. She could see her brother’s childish smile and she rolled her eyes. “It’s only deadly to someone who really makes me angry. Come on, it’s not like I’d ever kill you...might torture you a bit, but never kill you. Well you might get training sooner rather than later especially if we ever make a visit down to see our cousins in Forks.” She winked at her brother as she was enjoying this.
She liked hearing his laugh. She didn’t get to hear it very often. “Right, I’d miss you as much as I miss the dogs.” And by the dogs she meant the shifters but he would know that. She was only teasing of course. She knew that Eleazar liked to treat her like a child, when he teased her and patted her on the head. It was irritating sometimes but for the most part she tolerated it. “Right, and if you name it after me, I could always give you a shock every time you pat it on the head.” She teased her brother. He knew she would never hurt him, at least not with her talent, unless they were in training. “No, you’re right, I wouldn’t hurt the dog. You however, is a different story.” She and the Denali’s weren’t exactly one hundred percent comfortable being around the shifters so a dog would be eerily similar to that. Many would think she was fierce, and heartless but to those who knew her, she was a good soul....with a good heart, albeit a nonbeating one.
The truth was, she had accepted Eleazar and Carmen with ease when they had been welcomed into the family. It had happened after her mother and brother’s death and it was nevertheless welcomed warmly. She and Tanya had respected the rules of the Volturi but that was as far as it went. She would never like them after seeing her mother, brother, and sister brutally killed by them. Knowing of course that Eleazar had been a former guard to the Volturi one would think they wouldn’t have welcomed him as easily as they had Carmen but that had not been the case. It didn’t matter what brought a person only what they left with. And in this case yes, Eleazar had been a Volturi guard but he wasn’t one of them anymore. She could see that upon meeting him. She knew how to distinguish it. When he and Carmen arrived it was necessary to show them how to live off of animal blood, and though it was a struggle for them at first, understandably. Despite what she had known that Eleazar had done in his past, and what his former coven had done to them, she couldn’t blame him. And she certainly did not blame Carmen a bit as she had grown to love the woman with ease. She had forgiven him for what he was apart of and had tolerated the fact he was once apart of such a monster of a coven. “Yes, she is. But you and I both know she has a temper. And of course she would not shock you, she doesn’t have it in her. Might slap you a bit from time to time but you might deserve that.” She chuckled. Carmen was not the type to be violent as she was a compassionate person but even that had it’s limits. “You know for once, I think you’re right.” She had commented about being difficult being something the two shared in common.
Only certain things brought out the serious side of her. And Eleazar had brought out a subject which had made her act more serious. She was very exprianced when it came to certain things, though it only reflected in her features once in a great while, if only briefly. “You’re welcome, brother but you don’t have to say anything. I meant what I said. You know you and I may not have been very close, all these years but...you do look after Tanya and I....and I can’t tell you how good that feels. It’s something that is very important especially after everything that has happened to truly look after one another.” She loved her family and would do anything for them.
“Right, okay if I didn’t know any better I would say you’re hiding something and I’m usually good at reading when people are hiding things. I don’t need to have to shock you to get it out of you, do I?” She sighed as she looked at her brother. “Yes of course, I like secrets. I’m good at keeping them too.” she grinned as she could see there was something he wanted to say but was afraid to. “I know you’re hiding something, I can see it in your face, so just tell me. You know you’ll feel much better if you do.”

Eleazar had not been able to laugh so comfortably in front of someone else beside his wife for a while. It was because he was not the type of person who was comfortable with expressing his feelings to others; furthermore, there had been a lot of things going on in his head. He could not stop thinking and worrying though nothing seemed to be worrisome at the time being. The vampire world was completely peaceful and his family, along with his extended family – the Cullens, was absolutely safe. His mind should have been at ease. He supposed old people usually thought a lot. The conversation with Kate had brought him some peace of mind. He had never known having an annoying sister could be so much fun. He should have cared about her more. Well, it was not late to get started. Teasing each other and joking around – that was something he had never thought Kate and he could do since usually there had been awkwardness in every word they said to each other, despite the fact that they did care and love each other very much. A grin grew on his lips as Kate claimed that he was acting like a teenager when bragging about his looking older than her. Okay, you’re right. Age is just a ridiculous number to us. Therefore, you shouldn’t be so irritated about me acting like an older brother because I do look older than you. Age is nonsense after all. He grinned when said in response to his sister. I guess your childishness is infectious. He commented, implying that he was just as childish as she was when she commented about his acting like a teenager. Eleazar suppressed another laugh when he saw her roll her eyes. He liked it when she did that since it made her look more childish than ever. He sniggered a bit as he heard the word torture. He was well aware that Kate was more than capable of doing that. Of course you won’t kill me. If you did, who would pat you on the head? Anyway, I’m looking forward to your training, Master Kate. He bowed jokingly in quite a dramatic way.
Kate mentioned the dogs and he immediately understood who she was talking about. He let out a smile to let her know that he understood she was just joking. The Denali’s were not comfortable around shifter, neither were most vampires. The little blonde kept on teasing him. He was about to give her some feedbacks when she said she would give him a shock whenever he patted the dog, which would be named after her, on the head but she went on and admitted that she was not going to hurt the dog. He laughed quietly, was very amused by her sense of humor. He had never known she had such a good one in her as he had never talked to her as much as he did now. He really had to get to know people around him better. The same surprise occurred to him when he paid a visit to Forks and met Bella Cullen. Eleazar had been surprised by the way she talked, her respectfulness, confidence and of course, her sense of humor. He wondered how he would deal with them if they ganged up on him, teasing him when the family reunion took place. Well, it was worth waiting for. He was sure that Kate would be amused to see the Bella Cullen today. The little cousin of his was no longer the shy bride at her own wedding. She had grown into a strong yet loving and confident woman, who would definitely make her family proud of her. You know I can run. But seriously, I’m not worried about the dog, but about you. Just wait until I bring a puppy home and name it after you then pat it on the head everyday. Who knows, maybe you’re going to envy it since I care about it more than I care about you, little sister? He grinned mischievously when teasing his sister.
Carmen was a wonderful woman. He never stopped feeling grateful that fate had brought her into his life, letting her be his first love and his final one. He loved her more than his own life and he was willing to do anything for her, to keep her safe from all harm and to make her smile everyday. Without Carmen by his side, he would not have been who he was – compassionate, brave and good. It was her who had made him want to become better. It was her who had gone through every up and down with him. He was madly in love with her, had been and would always be. Everything about her was adorable and extraordinarily lovely to him. Her sweet smile, the puppy face she always made whenever she wanted him to do something for her, the gentle look on her face when she was around children, the soft tone she always used to speak to everyone. He could live with that everyday. If someday they had to separate, there were no many things he was not sure about but he was most definitely sure about one thing: he would die without her. There was no guarantee that their life would be constantly happy and peaceful like this but he would just live for now and let the future do whatever it wanted. What must be must be; but nothing could make him stop loving her, everyday of his endless life. Carmen is the sweetest person in the world. She won’t do that to me. He smiled and looked at his sister curiously. But I think I still have to be prepared. She will probably accuse me of loving my Xbox more than I love her. Will you defend me, since you’re here with me and that makes your words valuable? Please sister… He titled his head slightly as he said, grinning and pleading at the same time. You know you love your brother.
Eleazar believed that besides being difficult, both of them had a lot of things in common. It was just that they did not show. A smile grew on his face when Kate spoke to him. He was glad that his sister had noticed the way he took care of her and Tanya in years though he never made it obvious. He was happy that he had done something nice to his sisters. They and Garrett were his and Carmen’s family. Without them, he and his wife would not have been able to live this compassionate life they had always wanted. It was the Denali sisters who had shown them how to live off of animal’s blood, which had seemed rather odd to Eleazar at first. The Denali sisters had accepted him and Carmen in the family and took care of them. Ever since he joined the family, he had always tried his hardest to protect everyone in the family and cared about them. He had not been sure about what the Denali’s meant to him until the Irina’s death – they meant the world to him and he could not lose any of them anymore. He was one of the luckiest men in the world to have a lovely wife who loved him more than anything and a wonderful family who looked after every step he took. Words could not describe how grateful he was anymore.
Eleazar let out a sigh when he realized his sister began to read him again. That made him wondering if he was that easy to read, like an open book. I was trained to be expressionless by the Volturi and you could read me. How ironic! He let out a laugh. Eleazar moved closer to Kate after knowing that his sister was interested in secrets. I…went to Volterra. He lowered his voice when revealing his little secret to her as if he was afraid someone could hear them. Before his sister could freak out, he quickly continued. Don’t freak out! Don’t tell anyone about it, Kate, especially Carmen. It will give her a heart attack if you do.

It was getting back to a state of mind where they were getting to know eachother and to get along in a way they hadn’t done previously. She loved her family, without a shadow of a doubt. She had a lot of things going on in her mind but she knew if she didn’t express at least something she would have gone insane a long time ago. Tanya knew that better than anyone. She tried the best she could to not overthink things. Nothing seemed to be as it used to be, and they were able to live their lives in relative peace which was a good thing. Not only was their own family in peace but so were their cousins, that of the Cullen family. Being at ease was not always easy as even she could attest to that since Irina’s death.
As annoying as she knew she could be, she could be a lot more complicated than that. She cared about him, it had not mattered that he had not been with her and Tanya as long as Irina had been, she still loved him anyway. She cared about him, even though she had a hard time of showing it. It was not too late to get started. The truth of the matter was, there was an awkwardness even when they teased eachother and joked around. They had loved eachother very much but still, she hoped they could at least get to know eachother a little better than that. A grin grew on her face as the two were talking like she and Tanya would have, as siblings. It wasn’t quite as awkward now, for some reason. “Age is nothing but a number but come on brother. You’re my younger brother. So you might as well get used to it, even if you do look much older than me. It’s not my fault I was changed at a younger age than you were. And I resent that. I’m older than you, after all.” She heard him snigger and of course that only made her think of him more so of a younger sibling than someone who was supposedly trying to prove a point of how she was the younger sibling.
A grin appeared on her face. “Well that’s more like it.” She liked the idea of the term Master in front of her name. And his bowing even though he was joking had made her chuckle. The whole thing was very amusing to her. But it even got more amusing when they discussed the shifters. She had learned to tolerate them to a certain extent when they were around their cousins due to the treaty the Cullens had with the mutts. The blonde vampire looked at her younger brother and listened to him of course. She had a good sense of humor, she just never had a chance to share it with her brother before now. This was the longest conversation they had had since he had joined the family many years ago.
She had to get to know him better of course. She did not know what to make of it. “You can run, my dear brother, but you cannot hide from me. You’re worried about me? Well that’s a first. The second you bring a puppy home, I think I’ll shock you just for the fun of it. Me, get envious of a dog? I don’t think so.” She grinned mischeviously as she kept teasing her brother. She loved her family, even Carmen. She could see the love her brother had for her sister, Carmen, but they were perfect for eachother in every way imaginable.
It was how she had felt about Garrett. Everything about him was perfect. Not a day went by that she didn’t thank her lucky stars that she had found him. She would die without Garrett, and the few times where they were apart, it felt like an eternity. There was no guarantee that their life would be as it was now. There was no promise that their lives would always be happy and peaceful like it has been, but living for the present was the only way to live. They could not live for the past anymore than they could live for the future. What would be, would be. As Eleazar often liked to point out, though she hated the saying.
“Yes she is, but honestly you have no idea what she’s capable of. You haven’t made her that angry....to make her get violent with you. Yet.” She told her brother and wondered where her brother was going with this. Of course then she shook her head. “And she should accuse you, given did in fact stay behind when it was clear she wanted you to go with her. But....I suppose I can try to talk to her. Though if she’s that upset....nothing I say is going to be able to make a bit of difference how valuable my words are....but I can’t say I would agree if she did give you a stern talking to when she gets back.” She could hear his pleading and of course she was teasing her brother. ”I do, but you know I should not be in the middle of whatever is going on between you and your wife.” She grinned as she looked at her brother, though anything was possible. As time had proven that time and again.
With her and Tanya their lives had been different from the start, they had been changed around the same time, Irina not soon after so the three sisters had been willing to live a comfortable existance feeding off of animals. It was safer, after all they had fed from humans before, but that was something she did not like to bring up to her brother. She had known that at the time that Eleazar had not understood the notion of drinking from animals. She had looked after Carmen and Eleazar as they had made their transition from human blood to that of animal blood and she knew it was not easy to do so. It had never been as simple as it was at this moment. Not until Irina’s death did the four of them, realize how important family was. And how valuable it was to protect one another, as best they could. Garrett had protected her, saved her life when he had stopped her from going after the Volturi, whom to this day she still wanted to rip their heads off. Even if she had a good reason to do so.
She had been grateful for Eleazar and Carmen, for how they had responded, in kind when Irina, had been killed. Eleazar and Carmen were great in terms of helping her get through the death of her sister. Of being able to move on as best as she could.Words could not describe how lucky she was to have those two, and Garrett as well. “Well apparently the Volturi did not teach you everything, brother. As I clearly can read you. But that’s because I’ve lived with you too long.” She liked hearing his laughter. “You went to Volterra? Are you out of your mind? Look I know you have lived there before but you know as well as I do how risky that is. I won’t tell her. But if I know her, she’s going to figure it out, and if you don’t tell her and she finds out by other means, she will flip out. We both know that.”

This argument over who was the older one between the two Denali siblings was seemingly never going to end as they were both unbelievably stubborn. As to Eleazar, he did not want to admit he was the younger one either, although he really was, mentally. He had acted like a big brother to Kate after joining the Denali and it somehow had become used to patting her on the head, taking care of her and watching over her, which he liked to call babysitting. But his sister did not seem to enjoy being taken care of like a baby sister. He let out a laugh after hearing her speak. Say all you want, sister. You’re not going to look any older. He grinned. And I know you are mentally much older than I am but when people look at us, they will agree that I am the older one! He said stubbornly, enjoying the fact that he was annoying Kate. The discussion would not end there, for sure because none of them wanted to give up fighting for title of the older one. What a shame that Carmen had gone hunting with the rest of the family. Had they been there, they would have had a chance to enjoy the show, a comedy perhaps. A smile grew on his lips as Kate appeared to enjoy the term Master he had given her. Sure she would be a good teacher, no matter what she was going to teach him. To be honest, Kate was much more experienced than he was and she really had the insight. She could have been considered the older one if she had been less childish or hot-tempered. Eleazar had so much to learn from the woman he called his little sister. People would understand his opinion about her if they had happened to be there when Kate had helped Bella with her shield as well as her fighting skills. She had excellent combat skill, not to mention her incredibly dangerous gift. She would be the predominant one in the battlefield. Eleazar was absolutely proud of her. It was a very fun conversation when the topic of having a dog in the house was brought in. Kate, of course, never hated animals. But the idea of getting a dog was rather ridiculous to a vampire family. He tried to suppress a laugh when hearing Kate comment about that. Then I guess I will run back to Tanya crying about you bullying me. The puppy will be a witness. He laughed as saying.
When it came to his wife, Carmen, all he had for her was love and adoration. His beautiful Carmen really had him wrapped around her little fingers. His world revolved around her and he literally could not imagine his life without her. He would trade everything he had to keep her beside him forever. Carmen was the most compassionate, gentle woman he had ever seen in his life. And one in million things he was sure about her was that violence was the last thing she would have in mind when being angry with someone. Nevertheless, nothing could guarantee that she would speak happily to him when she got home after the hunting. Maybe she would be mad at him and avoid him for a week. Nothing hurt like silence. Kate had the point when telling him that he had no idea what she was capable of. Despite being very sweet and kind, Carmen was very random. She won’t get violent, but quiet, perhaps. That’s scarier. He let out a heavy sigh as he spoke. Well, I cannot ask too much from you. But thank you for being willing to try anyway, sister. If I die after the talk, sister, please tell her I love her and that I really want a puppy named after you. That is my last word. He grinned, knowing that it was not going to happen. But honestly, if he had to die one day, he wished to die in Carmen’s arms. It would be a blessing to a sinful soul as his. He nodded, smiling as Kate told him he was easy for her to read due to the fact that she had lived with him for too long. Centuries had past after he and Carmen had met the Denali sisters and joined their family. He was thankful to be where he was at the moment. He felt like he had been born again, in a much better life with a family that truly cared for him and loved him. He smiled softly, watching his sister panic after he had revealed to her that he had visited Volterra a few weeks earlier. Yes, I went to Volterra; and no, I was not out of mind. He said in response to her questions. I knew it was risky but I had nothing to do with the Volturi. I just visited an old friend of mine and asked him to do something for me, sister. That’s all. Well, I did run into the Volturi once or twice, had some brief conversations with them. I think I annoyed Aro a bit as well. He shrugged slightly. That is something both of us can agree on. Therefore, for her sake, we’ll have to bury this secret forever. Okay? [/blockquote] tagged: kate denali :]

It had been of utmost importance that she did not give her brother the right to be considered no matter how wrong he was, to be classified as the older brother. Looks may make it seem like he was the older sibling but in all reality he was much younger than she was. Still she knew why he did it. To get under her skin. She knew that no matter what she tried, that Eleazar, would never admit he was anything but a big brother to her, and Tanya. It was something that would never change.
Eleazar had always acted like the overprotective big brother which often got on her nerves, though she would never admit she loved him for it. “Yes well I’d rather look young than be young like you. Because no matter how many times you try to claim to be the older sibling, it won’t work. I’m always going to see you as the pipsqueak younger brother. I don’t care what appearances dictate, I’d rather look young than be young. I have more experiance than you do and you should know that by now. But then again clearly you don’t since you seem to want to challenge me for being the older sibling! Which is something that you will never be no matter how much older than me you appear to be!” She grinned as she looked at her brother. He was quite the child compared to her. Though she did love her brother dearly, much like she had loved her sisters, and her mate.
She knew that Carmen and the others would have enjoyed their arguing, although Tanya would be the one to yell at them once it got too far, but that’s what older sisters were for! She watched as her brother smiled at her. It would be quite interesting to teach her brother something. Though she was sure whatever she taught him would be used against her later. Nine times out of ten that was usually how it worked. Her skills had proved to be useful when she was helping Bella with her shield and even without her ability she could still knock someone down to size. Having excellent combat skills did prove to be useful, not to mention her shockingly dangerous gift. Still she was proud of her entire family, even the ones that did not have a gift. She liked to think that if Eleazar should be crazy enough to get a dog, that it would actually last more than a day or two. She did not hate animals of course, but they were quite appetizing even though she would have a hard time drinking from something she considered a pet. Which the idea itself was ridiculous as vampires did not have pets, let alone one that could prove to be quite an appetizer. She chuckled as she looked at her brother. “Ah but what makes you think, dear brother that she would take your side if you went crying to her?” After all she had known Tanya longer and their bond had been very strong prior to Carmen and Eleazar joining their family, although it was still difficult to realize that a piece of them was always missing, with Irina’s death. It was something that would never truly be filled again.
It was true that Carmen was more the compassionate than violent type but she knew how women, vampires or otherwise could be when they finally snapped. Still there were times where Carmen wouldn’t speak and the rest were left wondering why. Carmen could be very random. “You never know what Carmen could do, especially if she’s provoked enough. But you’re right, the silence, especially for you would be a lot scarier. I would prefer if she has an issue, to just come out and say it. Instead of retreating into herself, with the silence she prefers.” She could hear her brother sigh heavily as he was talking. “Well I will tell her about how much you love her, the rest I think I’ll opt out from telling her. It’s not as important after all.” She smirked as she looked at her baby brother. She had been thankful to have a brother like Eleazar even if he could be a handful. Centuries had past since he and Carmen had joined her, Irina and Tanya. And oh how much had changed since then.
She looked at her brother inquisitively. “Oh you can say you weren’t out of your mind but clearly you were! I don’t care how much Volterra may hold memories for you. It’s still dangerous enough no matter if you ran into the Volturi or not. Couldn’t you have arranged for the meeting with your friend outside of Italy perhaps? You ran into them? Why would you have annoyed Aro? Do I need to be worried? And I’ll try to bury the secret if you will.” She did not like hiding things from her sister and more than likely she would be hesitant if asked about it.
