quite likely the single most apt word used to describe felicity is two-faced - though, as a woman who prides herself on the ability to wield this trait like a weapon, few know her truly as such. there are two sides to felicity, you see - the side she bares to the world, and the side she keeps tucked away for the majority of the time. rare is the time she lets this half of her out and about. the first side is the one that is most often showed; it's the lady, the half of her that is delicate, soft, and gentle. there is no denying that felicity is a lady through-and-through, but she is particularly good at those practiced smiles, those eyelash bats, and the art of conversation, as well. she is the lady that is light and buoyant. she is the lady who has no trouble charming many of the people she is in company with.
but then, of course, there is the other half of felicity - which is not so different from the first half, you see, but with a few other enhancements. because it is true that her charm and her quick-wit are attributes that run through her veins always and forever. they are things she adapted before her death and her consequent turning. however, this part of her that she doesn't she - this second half - is far more cunning than she initially lets on. fee, of course, has grown up amongst a family in which slyness and quick-thinking runs deep in their blood. manipulative by nature and vindictive by necessity, she is certainly a force to be reckoned with if she holds a grudge against you - and, likely, a slight in her direction will leave her a bit begrudging, only because it is her way to be so.
for how vengeful she is, however, felicity still retains a bit of that childlike wonder when she regards the world. she is wide-eyed and entranced; she finds herself admiring the smallest things, having a keen eye for detail, and a lingering remorse for never having fully experienced her mortal life. she will admit sometimes, in soft tones to those she truly cares for and trusts, that she misses being human - that she would rather feel exhaustion than be perpetually hung in a web of immortality. her wide eyes and smiling lips often portray to those around her a childlike nature that, though refined with the graces she was raised into, proceeds to paint her in a warm light.

History ::[/i]
soft and sweet is the girl that grows up with men of the church praising her; and that is felicity, who was born annalisa giulia calfucci. her father was a renowned man of god, and her younger brother was to follow suit in his father's clerical duties. felicity didn't live long enough to see her brother become a church man of any means; and, in fact, her vibrant young life was cut rather short, rather early. as the apple of her father's eye, doted upon by both alfonso and gianni, they took great time selecting a husband for their gem - a well-to-do, noble husband to match their own noble lineage, the son of a some-sort-or-other fellow who was wealthy enough to provide for their daughter, who had grown up with a taste for the finer things in life. she was not picky, certainly - but there was an admiration in her eyes for fine silks and expensive wine. and so it was that at the age of sixteen, felicity (then annalisa) was carted off and married to basilio de cattanei.
at the tender age of sixteen, felicity had much to learn about the ways of court - and it was lucky for her that her husband, at least eleven years her senior, had spent enough time among the noble lords and ladies that he knew his workings well enough. there was little love between the two of them; felicity was pleased to have a handsome husband who was pleased to have her on his arm, and the conversation was nice enough - but she felt little else for him than a mild affection that comes when you know you aren't going to be with anyone else for the rest of your life. court life was rather demanding, too. felicity was quick to learn the ropes; she was resourceful even as a young child, and when she discovered that what you said, even if it was spoken in the greatest of confidences, would be repeated to at least five others, she knew to guard herself carefully.
by the time she came into her seventeenth year of her human life, felicity had blossomed into a polite, timid young creature into the noble lady-wife of an influential diplomat. she was charming, and smooth, and when she smiled and fluttered her lashes, plenty laughed after her - and it came to be that the swell of her belly held a brand new life in it. for the first time since she had been married to basilio, she felt something more for him than just warm affection - it wasn't love, but it was something close to it; adoration, perhaps, for allowing her this new light in her life. as it came to be, however, the child was not meant to be hers - and a mere few weeks into the pregnancy, felicity miscarried.
the baby had been a boy, and felicity had been certain he would have been the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. she mourned the loss of her child for days; even the consoling touch of her husband could not ease the pain, nor the murmured grievances of her ladies.
life carried on in this way for quite some time for felicity. she miscarried once more, another boy, and by then her husband had begun to grow cold her; there were whispers of mistresses amongst the household, maids blushing and looking away whenever their lady gave them a second glance. when the time came that she finally became pregnant once more, at the age of nineteen, extra precautions were taken.
the child arrived on time, but the birth was difficult. while the baby girl came into the world perfectly healthy and warm, the dottore said, felicity would not make it through. there was nothing they could do.
whether it be by fate or by chance, the people that had come to wish her goodbye as she lay dying in her own bed, aching to hold the little girl that was supposed to have been hers, there was a stranger with red eyes that paid felicity her condolences. and, when everyone was gone, the stranger leaned down and whispered, "i could save you, you know. non - i could more than save you. i could give you immortality."
somewhere in the haze of almost-death and life, felicity pleaded for her life. and she was given it, in an excruciating way - the vampire took her away from home, and let the poisonous fire flood through her veins. the morning that she was born again, she had been made into a beast.
there was no way she could return home. felicity knew this almost immediately, even amidst the bloodlust and her desire to see her child once more. she would be burned at the stake, surely; they would cry witch and monster and string her up, and this life - this new, vibrant life - was worth more than that.
and so, felicity departed italy and found her residence in spain, taking up the title of noble lady once more. it was among the old streets of spain that she roamed, and among these crowds that she came to see rafael. she knew, the moment she saw him, that she wanted him more than anything; at the time, she hadn't been sure whether she wanted him solely for a meal or for the dark gaze that she found herself so enthralled with. whatever it was, she did not end up killing him; in fact, she offered him the same thing the vampire had offered her so long ago, and when he accepted, she took him for her own.
since then, rafael has been her constant companion, the two of them traveling the world, taking up different names when the time came. annalisa giulia calfucci lost her italian roots and adopted a more victorian name - felicity elaine wakefield, of the northumberland wakefields - but she never lost the soft, lulling italian accent. somewhere in their time, they adopted a more vegetarian diet, and eventually became fully vegetarian - never once, however, has she lost her taste for vengeance.
