-- after a long day's work, though for poppy, work was never really work, the red-head was tired, and wanted nothing more than to relax outdoors at the docks with a drink from one of the local cafes. once upon a time, she'd been a starbucks girl, downing the overly-sweet calorie-filled drinks every day. but lately she'd turned her nose up at the franchise, choosing instead to drink the more bitter, more real coffee offered at the coffee shops hidden in downtown port angeles. -- --it was too hot to drink coffee anymore, the summer sun already beating down at full blast. so instead of her usual cappuccino, poppy gripped a cup filled with iced green tea, letting the beads of dew drip over her fingers. though her hair was cropped short for the summer, sweat still ran down the back of her neck under her red curls. after eighteen years, poppy was used to sweating it out in the middle of the year, but that didn’t mean she enjoyed it. at least at the docks the heat wasn’t as intense. the cold saltwater spray that splashed over the rail was welcomed gladly by poppy, a great smile crossing her face every time the drops hit her cheeks. she’d grown up around boats and water, so coming here was like returning to the past.-- --the past was easier. her childhood was hell, but a simpler circle of hell where she didn’t have to make her own decisions and rely on herself completely. only eighteen and poppy already lived by herself. not exactly by choice, though no amount of money would make her return to her family. after getting caught in the drug mess at school, her parents had kicked her out. but staying would have been so much worse than bouncing from house to house for the first few months like she had. it’d taken a while, but she’d gotten on her feet, gotten a job and a small apartment. she was living, though not how she’d thought she’d be living.-- --but who actually did live the way they expected? right out of high school (or, in poppy’s case, just kicked out of high school with a last minute diploma that she’d practically begged for), every kid had dreams of living in a house straight away with some fantastic job. funny how they never taught what real life was actually like in school. at the thought, poppy gave a snort, shaking her head somewhat angrily. they’d teach math and english --what a useless class, learning how to decipher an author’s words. because they’d really use that in the real world. -- --with a sigh, poppy turned, her bouncing curls spinning in a short arc behind her, ready to leave the docks, or at least to move down to one of the lesser beaches. the later it got, the more people would begin to crowd the docks. and with summer just beginning, poppy knew the spot would be flocked to by couples of all shapes and sizes. not something she wanted to deal with, not now. still sore from the break-up that had happened over a year ago, poppy didn’t need to see all the happy successful couples smiling, rubbing their relationships into her face. how so many people could get it right but she couldn’t was beyond her. but it wasn’t something she thought about lately. she didn’t need a relationship. wanted one, of course, but didn’t need one.-- --she strode slowly across the wooden planks, her eyes downcast, watching the waves through the cracks between boards. poppy wasn’t exactly watching where she was going, assuming no one else would be coming so soon. bumping into any stranger would surely be her fault, but stubborn little poppy would never admit to it. she could never do any wrong, her most evident tragic flaw.--

The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the air was warm. Nothing could dampen Lily's mood now. Ever since she had moved to Forks it was either nearly always raining or overcast, and not that Lily didn't like the rain. In fact she absolutely loved it, but she had missed the sun more than she thought. Pennsylvania was by no means the sunniest state, but she had experienced the whole spectrum of weather, not just the rain the Washington seemed to have in excess.
But not only was the day beautiful, but today was the day that she would get to finally meet Seth. She had agreed to meet him after he had confided in her about his break up with Nessie. She felt really bad for the both of them. Nessie was an extremely good friend to her, and although she had only known her for a short time, Lily felt that Nessie was possibly the closest friend that she ever had. She was actually introduced to Seth through Ness... well, nit exactly introduced. Nessie had given her his number and they had been communicating like that for a while. They seemed so close and friendly and loving, and it was so sweet when Nessie told her about their time together.
That was, until the break up. They had a falling out she was still pretty fuzzy on the details, even though Seth had tried to explain the situation to her to the best of his abilities, but they were both still hung up on it. It was when she and Seth were texting each other that she offered her support and he offered to meet to try and take his mind off of Nessie for a bit. She agreed in an attempt to help him heal and to find out more about the guy that she had heard so much about.
So that was where she was now. She had hitched a ride from her mother who usually went up to Port Angeles anyways and was sitting in the seat beside her mother. Both of them making fools of themselves with the various songs that would come up on the radio. Lily laughed as her mother parked in a nearly full lot near the docks and started headbanging to the song. Her mother looked up with a bright wide smile, her dark hair sticking up wildly and her blue eyes sparkling with joy. Liliana rolled her eyes at her mom and opened the car door "So I'll text you, try to keep you updated" She told her mother. She nodded and smiled at her daughter, "You have your taxi money right? Because I won't be able to pick you up and Dad is Seattle for the day" Lily nodded, reassuring her mom "Have a nice day sweetie, and remember: Stranger Danger" She pointed at her daughter and Lily once again rolled her eyes at her mom, "Yeah, mom I know. I'm not five. I'm not gonna get into some stranger's car" She kissed her mother on the cheek and stepped out of the car and into the bright docks. She watched her mother drive away as she waved goodbye.
Lily made a quick 360 degree turn, trying to figure out where she should go first. She had purposefully come to Port Angeles earlier than Seth so she could explore for a bit. Hopefully she wouldn't get herself too lost before her meeting. She walked in the direction of most of the shops and entered a Dunkin' Donuts that was nestled between two other shops. Those things were seriously everywhere, even from where she was standing she could tell that there were probably two or three more in the surrounding area. She bought herself a large sweetened ice tea and exited the shop the ice cold drink beginning to chill her hands to the point of discomfort. She soon found herself back the docks, she was walking along the wooden planks, looking around at the scenery. So many happy people out and about with their families or friends or significant other. It was kind of sweet. She looked out at the ocean and smiled. She loved the ocean so much, any large body of water really was her favorite place to be. It was calm and relaxing, well to most people anyways. She knew her father was terrified of large bodies of water. He could swim sure, but in a pool or small pond, where he could see the other side. When it came to the ocean or large lakes, he was out. They had taken many vacations to South Carolina, but whenever they went he never stepped foot in the water. Her mother always liked to tease him about that.
As she was walking along the boardwalk she walked into someone, or rather someone walked into her. Her ice tea spilled all over her and most likely over the person who had bumped into her. Her eyes widened in horror as she looked into the other person's eyes. They were about the same height but the redheaded girl looked more mature, she was probably older than her. "I am so sorry" She said horrified. This so would happen to her. She grinned weakly at the ginger, "Hey, if you were hot before, at least now you're a bit cooler" she said while laughing weakly at an attempt to make a joke. She just hoped that her day wouldn't be ruined by this minor set back.
